Recently, I’ve been a little inspired. I guess you can probably tell by what…
When Kevin and Layla happened on over to our hizzy last Saturday, (We had a good ole time) I was telling her all about yapping her ears off regarding the plans for our kitchen. I wanted to do something to our pantry door. And she had the suggestion, that we turn it into a screen door…

and of course I love screen doors…the sound of that clackety-clack and wonderful feeling of being home…it brings back childhood memories of my grandmother’s house… and it would bring a ton of instant character to our (soon to be former) cookie cutter kitchen. Only our doorway is a strange size for your average, run-of-the-mill, screeny. So Jamin and I have decided to build one (yay! another post, I’m sure!) and in the meantime, I’ve been examining the look and feel of every screen door that I come across.
yeah. sue me. this one isn’t screened. But I still love the feeling of a double door kinda entry.
this one slides!

love the combo of chalkboard and screened in goodness.
FYI: I really hope ours squeaks.
So there you have it. I’m sure there will be some interesting convos wafting from our home soon regarding all things builderly. And I’ll show you a fun before and after when we finally giterdone.

In other news, a lot of you have been asking me q’s about this post.
Click on the photo below, and it will take you directly to the fabric on fabric.com.
we originally planned to use the fabric on the right. But it was sold out. So Jennifer chose this one in the same line. (on the left) only now, it’s sold out as well. Fabric.com kinda REEEHHHHEEAAAALLLLYYYYY needs to hurry on up and get some of that yellow lemony goodness back into stock so I can pounce on some of it for my own.
(No pressure. None at all.) Patchwork and pillows were made from all of the fabrics seen here.

The duvet was made from this gorgeous waverly fabric below, and is reversible for when she grows tired of the stripes or script.

Hi Ashley, The screen-door-for-your-pantry-door is an excellent idea. My only question is, what do you do about the mess? My pantry is not show-worthy AT ALL! I have been toying with the idea of doing a glass-front door with a cool etched design…something to cover more of my pantry's contents. Good luck with the screen! Can't wait to see how great it turns out!
…eye candy indeed! what a fun post!
I'm so happy you turned on comments!
I'm loving the fabrics. They're all gorgeous, and what a lovely combination!
Oh, a pantry screen door is on my to-do list for sure. Turquoise or apple green most likely. My door is a weirdo size also. WHY oh why in a cookie cutter house do they have to have noncookiecutter sized doors. Really. I don't have a husband to help with all things builderly but maybe I could plane one down…or something. Correction- I do have a husband just not a builderly husband.
Wow! The screen door is definitely a great idea. I would never have thought about that. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
That is a great idea. My grandmother will soon be selling the house she and my grandfather lived in my whole life and it has a screendoor in it that I've always said I wanted. My family makes fun of me & says, what am I going to do with a screendoor. Now I have some ideas! Thanks!
We had a guy come out to our previous house to measure the pantry for a screen door. Imagine our surprise when he pulled out one of those ancient, fold-out tape measures! Hello, 1910! It took him a good 2 minutes to get it all worked out.
Alas, we didn't get the door. Don't remember why. (Maybe because we moved?)
In this house, it has remained on our to-do list.
And now we're moving again. (At least I think so?)
One of these days, Sister. One. Of. These. Days.
ps – That CL rounded-top one? Sa-Woon!!!!!
screen door on the pantry…cool idea! Love screen doors as well…so reminiscent of olden and simple childhood days! My mom has one against the wall in her living room. Love it!
And that big girl room!! FABULOUS! Love the assortment of fabric and colors! So freeing. As one who tends to think things "have" to match, I am WAY inspired to re-do with many colors involved! COOL!
OH and the lovely turquoise options in front of the window holding toys…..I NEED that!! =D What a lucky little girl to have a mama so full of ideas, spunk and talent!
What a great idea!!! Can't wait to see how the whole kitchen turns out, I know it will be fab!
Smashley,
(It's alright if I call you that, right?)
Oh.
Wait.
Considering that I'M the one who SMASHED your barstool, maybe I should be the one called Smashley.
Grrr.
Still mad at myself for that.
Anywho- I LOVE that you're building a screen door and that bedroom you worked on is FABULOUS!!!
Can't wait to see you next week!
Layla (a.k.a Smashley)
Another thing to put on my wish list for my house…screen doors totally remind me of childhood. We would never lock our front door and in fact would leave just the screen door closed to get a cool breeze going. Aghhh….such memories! Thanks girl!
Just wanted to pop in and let you know that the yellows are back in stock AND on sale for $5.93/yard through tomorrow! I was so excited, since they were still out of stock yesterday.
Oops, I meant through Sunday.
