I heart ikea

We (a good friend and I) took a quick, fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants-like-we’re-still-in-college, trip to Ikea this last Friday. It was totally random, and last minute, as I’d decided that I can’t do a thing to this kitchen project I’ve been rambling incessantly about, until the gargantuan kitchen sink is installed, because it doesn’t make sense to paint the cabinets and THEN cut into them…so we went for it, and totally dumped five kids on daddy daycare Jamin, and headed for Hotlanta (our nearest location) Aiden had been milking it recovering on the couch, sans any symptoms for 36 hours, and I thought we were in the clear. The next day, that Saturday morning, much to our horrified dismay, our younger two may or may not have erupted with the voms within an hour of one another, and the following day, Sunday, my wonderful friend who so graciously agreed to go with me, may or may not have been cleaning up her own children’s splodes, as well. Despite the fact that we totally thought we were in the clear…

{insert sheepish, guilt ridden grin, here.} LE GIANT OVERDRAMATIC SIGH: parenthood and children and sicknesses and thinking you’re in the clear when apparently you’re not…BOOOOOOOO. I can’t tell you how many apologies I’ve made since then, and thankfully they haven’t defriended us…

So in the meantime, despite the heavy price we paid, we spied some awesome products. I thought I’d do a quickie post on some of Ikea’s fabulous pieces that totally caught my eye while we were there.

I’m gravitating towards touches of the modern lately, and there’s just something I find totally irresistible about a lot of their awesome products and prices. This pitcher really floats my boat and has a rubbed look to it, around the edges. Just like the old ones of yore. Another great, timeless kitchen find…

The Trampa doormat really offers a great alternative to the typical bland variety. Somewhat related side note: some of their titles totally crack me up. {Get it? Trample?}

Especially this one. {read this in your best Arnold Schwarzenegger a la mommy dearest voice: NO WIRE HANGAS!!!!!!!!}

I am redoing the boys room this summer, and I’m pretty sure one of these pieces will be making an appearance in their space, as I’ll definitely be going for a more simplified, streamlined look.

Another piece in the much beloved Hemnes line, this mirror rocks.

I can’t seem to locate this rug, and it’s probably a good thing I didn’t see it in real life…because I love it.

This photo doesn’t do this duvet justice, but HELLO TICKING STRIPES! The twin goes for 25 smacks. When I need two of them for the boys’ bunkbed, you can’t really beat that.

I may or may not have impulsively gone for this strainer.

I ADORE their children’s bedding. Why not go with something simple and whimsical like this?

Of course, I also adore their basic staples, like this decanter and their spice jars.

I may or may not have stolen away with one of these.

I also may or may not have freaked out struck a (very awkward) pose in the middle of ikea while I wiped the drool off my chin and looked prego in this shirt. And now quite oompaloompaish with the colors in my camera phone.

What are some of your fave products from Ikea? They’re just so practical to mix and match with the rest of my eclectic vintage decor, I can’t help but love them and their awesome prices…

    Hey Ashley, I've been looking for a sink like that! How much was it?

  2. ashley @ pure + lovely says:

    Hey Debbie! I bought the double, but I will list both…the single is 249. http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/S49847479

    and the double is I think 350? Jamin stole my receipt and you can't view it online. Then if you purchase a nicer faucet it is 485 all together. Which kind of sounds like a lot, until you compare it to the latest on Overstock at 700…and that's a good price…for Overstock.

    They've received great reviews, and I'll let you know how mine pans out, if you're interested!

    Enjoy!
