In the grand tradition that is me, I’m about two rooms ahead of my current take-on in my head, and in that process, I’ve already been thinking about the laundry room redo, as soon as we’ve finished the kitchen. (yes, next up=laundry=only one ahead, but if you picked up on my Ikea post, I’ve totally got the boys’ room on the brain for this summer. BUNKBEDEXTRAVAGANZAAAAA: cue the kids with luchador masks jumping from the highest point…) But I digress…because the laundry room has cabinets as well, and steps right off of the kitchen. And I like the idea of keeping all the doors (except closets, of course) open, and I want my laundry room to be purdy when people come over. Think powdered detergent in pretty canisters, and bright, airy cabinet spaces. {Yes. The powdered detergent is just as important as the bright airy cabinet spaces…}
So, to painting the cabinets I will go, and in the meantime, I’m kind of thinking some board and batten would look pretty killer in that space. I love the way it’s simple application gives a room instant structure and interest, and since the room is small, I think wrapping it around as a backsplash as well, would be really fun. And there you have it. Jumping on the board and batten bandwagon, I’ve found a few of the following photos to be quite inspirational, as well as the very informative blog posts that follow.
Be sure to click on the photo below, for the link, and read up on this oh so popular treatment. In the meantime, Jamin and I will be ripping up our baseboards in a few weeks and, well, BRING IT!
I LOVE everything about the colors used in this space. YUM.
Check out Julia’s before’s here. The B + B totally transformed the room.
I love how this one has a slightly different look here…what a great application!
AHHHH! see? someone else DID use it as backsplash! Bravo!
Ours will definitely have a practical application, as well. And double as a “mudroom” if you will. We desperately need hooks for storing our backpacks and lunchboxes, and raincoats, and…
I’m drooling over that aqua 7. LOVE it.
All of these talented ladies rocked it, as usual.
And there you have it. Have you guys used B + B in your home? I’m totally on the bandwagon. And probably like, three years too late, but sign me up! I’m just kicking myself for not thinking to do it sooner…{or being brave enough to upgrade from my cookie cutter status…} I’d LOVE it if you’d leave a link for me to come to your blog and drool!
*MUAH.*

yess good pictures!! love them all!
And what a great bandwagon to be on! I love that you opened up your comments again, btw. It will probably take peeps a while to catch on, but I do love some comment love.
so are the back panels usually just the sheet-rocked walls painted the same color as the boards? I can't tell in the pictures.
I just jumped on board too. We just did our entry and staircase and it's my new fave part of our house. Here it is: http://imperfectlypolished.com/2011/03/01/board-and-batten-part-2/. I'm sure yours will look amazing like everything else you do:)
We may or may not be installing some right after I finish typing this comment…..
Jessie-you are too sweet.
Kelly-MDF! CHeck out these links above for some great how tos!
Layla-awesome. I'm going for it in a few weeks. right after I shoot myself for even wanting to paint our kitchen.

I just love your blog! I love board and batten too! I did it in my bathroom and in my dining room. Here are the links:

It really is pretty simple. The caulking is the worst part!
