stenciled floors

Some of the photos in this post, you may have seen before. In a world of inundated and saturated internets, sometimes, I think its great to go back and revisit a great idea. To look at their creative applications, their variations in color and their uses to see if something might apply to my own abode. Whether it be the floor, or even something else that could use a bit of stencil treatment, I was inspired by these photos.

Yep. You guessed it. I’m over my lousy {builder’s grade} carpet. You enjoy it for the first year, only because it was already there and you’re not a total ingrate, so with the carpet you roll. And then find yourself spending the rest of your life wishing you could get that same look back, after you’ve lived there for a mere 12 months… pining and spending moolah with the big wig carpet cleaners, who only match it up to sub par fabulousness. With three kids prone to sickness, cereal habits, and potty training… and a gigantic bladder control issues fatty mcgee of a dog dog… we were doomed.

Hardwoods aren’t in the budget. Yet. In the meantime, these entertain me… with their off the beaten wood, er, I mean path, ways.

I absolutely love the ideas and am craving some of this in our new house, which has hardwood throughout (I’m thinking something fun in the will-be-nursery). BUT… my hesitation is what happens in 10 years when the style is out? Do you repaint? Can you refinish it back to the original hardwood? I’m afraid of painting the hardwood and being stuck with it forever! Any thoughts?

I would love stenciled floors in my kitchen.

We have an old house with old hardwoods downstairs – we lovingly call them rustic but really they need to be refinished – and upstairs we have carpet that is 3 years old but looks 10 years old thanks to 3 kids, 2 cats, and the dog. I think that no matter what kind of flooring it takes a beating with young families. We investigated having our hardwoods refinished and one of the contractors actually suggested waiting until our kids were older so we wouldn’t have to do it twice:)

gorgeous. yet i’m too afraid to paint on my hardwoods. this house is 100 years old, so i feel like i would tarnish it’s worth or something. i wish i had a patio with wood floors to do this on… sigh…

I love painted/stenciled floors! but from experience; i’ve painted 2 different room’s floors and i would suggest darker colors and some pattern; we had an ice blue in our kitchen at an older house and a white floor in a guest room…BIG FAT PAINS to keep clean! Absolutely beautiful effect and really brightened the rooms big time, but if not kept up with daily (sweeping/mopping) then the dirt shows up big time. And i ain’t gonna lie; i don’t clean my floors every day. :)

I would totally do it if I had hardwoods or concrete floors even. I think as long as you pick a pattern and color scheme that’s timeless it’s a safe bet.

  7. Oh my gosh. I am in the process of redoing my family room and the floors are 99% decided but not purchased… This makes me rethink EVERYTHING… I am crazy about this idea. Yoinks, my wheels are spinning so fast I’m smoking!!

Thank you for sharing my floor! I’m honored, I love your blog!! <3

I would totally do it. Once I rip up the gol’ dern ceramic tile in my kitchen and see what’s under there, it may very well need painting and stenciling!
