As a few of you may already know, we’re in the process of the final transformation from Malone’s nursery…
Into a shared boy’s space.
It’s been in this transitional period, and recently I talked a bit about our plans, but we’ve been hard at work building a loft and refinishing some furniture for their space. Of course, a few things have changed already, even from that original idea board… based on budget, and time..and…about a million other variables. Meh.
But one thing I wanted to share with you today was a sneak peek at the window treatments. You see, I’d been wanting some diagonal stripeage on the windows for.ev.ver.
We all know I have this unhealthy obsession with the classic simple shape of stripes. I had our {formerly known as our good} living room pillows sitting on the floor, with plans to slice and dice. And then I decided that was just too much work for this tired mama: to cut on a diagonal again, and again, and again, and again, until I had enough stitched together, in that length, for what I wanted. BLECH. Enough already.
And then, it hit me.
The answer was sitting right smack in the middle of our dining room table. That chevron fabric, posing as a table runner, that I never bothered to actually sew for this very reason.
If I cut them just right, on the line,
And ironed…
Hemmed the edges of my already-acquired, half-off, Joann’s linen… {WIN!}
Pinned and attached my new-found diagonal on the inner most sides of my new curtains…
{added some rod pockets and hemmed the bottom}
And…
TADA! No more “baby-ish” curtains. These guys definitely have a nice, masculine edge for their new home in the little man cave. And I made it all with just a fraction of the usual fabric.
Can’t wait to show you guys the entire room. We should be finito just in time for Aiden’s {6th!?!} birthday, next week. {This is our gift to him-the kid is supa excited.} I just may have a use for that barn door, after all. 😉
There you have it: A simple, affordable, lazy non seamstress busy mama’s approach to fun curtains. This application would work for anything from curtains to pillows to bedding… As usual, let me know if you try it, if you already have, and any of your fun stories you have!
Stay tuned tomorrow for a super exciting giveaway-you’re not going to want to miss this one!

i have a pair of store bought curtains that are just a smidge too small (width wise) for my window. adding a striped trim would fill the gap and look amazing. thanks for the tute!

Thank you so very much for showing you talent to us non-designers. We just moved in to our new home and have no idea what styles and designs that would reflect my personality, until I saw your segment on NATE. I have already made a to do list for this weekend. Again, thank you.

Ashley-I commented on your post about trim earlier and then after browsing at your site realized my son’s curtains are exactly like these! We also used chevron fabric and cut them on the diagonal. They look almost just like this!! Love it!!
