grasscloth goodness

Hello to all of our favorite people – It’s an eye candy kinda Monday morning! I hope you all had a relaxing weekend, and are ready to hit the ground running. No? Me neither! Well, be comforted by this: if we lived near, I would at least bring you a nice coffe-esque beverage to make it all worth your while. We would be friends, and then you would defriend me in real life after you got all weirded out and blocked me on facebook because I rambled too much about crazy ideas. YAY!  ;)

I’ve discussed it here before, but the idea of grasscloth just gets me every time. And despite the fact that it’s currently ‘trendy,’ and has been so for a while, grasscloth is like linen and hardwood floors in the world of home and design. There may always be different versions of it, but it remains a classic fixture in decor options.

We all know it can make a space quite stunning.

It seems to bring in a new element of texture and interest.

This incredible space by the fabulous Lauren Liess still has me swooning.

That brass lamp just made me drool.

The classic, fun staircase is always a win, with a new layer of grasscloth.

I loved his room by Lonni from Design Star a few seasons back.

I’m dying.

But spastic drooling aside…

I added touches of grasscloth in subtle ways around our own home.

So what I love the most about grasscloth is some of the unexpected ways that designers and decorators, and people just like you and me…are using it.

It’s for more than just those “typical” uses.

I have a current obsession with alcoves, but this contrast, paired with those awesome pops of yellow and subtle color…is brilliant. {via house beautiful}

I’m in love with this dresser from Bungalow 5.

A pop of geometric grasscloth paired with some oogle worthy metallics. Yes.

Who said it had to come in wallpaper form only? Kinda wondering how soft that refined rock star pillow is.

This bookcase automatically received another dimension from the grasscloth back.

This file box from West Elm rocks, but would also be an easy DIY idea.

Via Centsational Girl. Beautimous as usual.

Am I the only one who wants to reach into this photo and straighten up those barstools? Probably? I love the idea of combining a shelving unit with upper cabinets. And the grasscloth makes them oh so luscious.

Another easy DIY idea!

Yes, please. Another.

I love this contrast…and it would be a simple Ikea Hack kind of project.

Not 100% hard core wallpaper, but you get the idea with the nice texture above…

Awesome idea!

Love the look of combining beadboard with the wallpaper. Another great window seat! {I nabbed this one off pinterest and it was a dead end link. If anyone wants to let me know that’d be fantastical.}

And…I saved the best for last. BAM!  No. Really. The reclaimed wood + wallpaper just made me dizzy…I’m going to lie down now.

Hope you feel a little inspired this Monday! Have you used grasscloth in your home? I’d love to see a link if you have. And riddle me this: how are you using texture in your home? What’s your favorite thing to layer, and bring an additional dimension to a space? Spill it. I’d love to hear!

Great post! I want every room in my house to look like these! I’m lusting again…

  2. Becky says:

I agree … gorgeous stuff. When I was a little girl my mom (the artist!) put burlap on our dining room walls. Texture … ahead of its time.

  3. Jen says:

Where do you obtain grasscloth? Can you purchase by the yard ….? Just thinking about some ideas for our bookshelf!

  4. Catherine says:

Beautiful… I just pinned a bunch of these. How easy is it to use? Say… for walls?

Great pictures. Love the grass cloth!

  6. I am doing this on one wall of my bedroom! I can’t wait to have something besides an orange peel textured wall in this house! :)

Thanks for all the links. I forgot all about the design star room from a few years ago. I love that room!

Grasscloth is trendy?! I’ve always considered it a design staple. I think that’s because my mom had it in our house growing up. It was green and really “knotty” (if that’s a word). Glad to see it’s a little more subtle now. That yellow accented bedroom is fantabulous!

I have had grass cloth wallpaper for the last 9 years on one small wall and instead of tile as the back splash in my kitchen. It is red. I get more compliments on it than almost any design detail in my home.
I have loved grass cloth since I was 18 and saw it in a 100 year old home they used it in the Dinning room and it was perfect. It brought the old home in line with their slightly newer furniture.
    Love your taste!

Grasscloth goodness INDEED! WOW! Loved seeing all those pics!

    Layla :-)

PS- there just might be some grasscloth in our future too ;-)

You are definitely not the only one who wants to straighten those stools at that kitchen island. Looking at that picture was driving me nuts! It’s a GORGEOUS kitchen, but seriously, someone should have placed those stools appropriately before taking the picture. Sigh. I’m OCD like that.

Also, we had grasscloth in one of the homes we lived in when I was growing up (I’m 27), and it was not so good. These grasscloth examples here are sooooo much prettier!
