walked into a very expensive restaurant…via
Two weeks ago, I was sick. I was lying on the sofa and turned on National Geographic. Shhhh don’t tell anyone. Sometimes I have moments of total nerd-dom. (I know you’re shocked.) They had this special, where these hardcore inmates were turning their lives around. They’d gone through this intense kind of therapy course, and were making a real change in their lives. In prison, they had a ceremony for these inmates who had worked so hard, and were receiving certificates for it. One man was sharing his story, and there was a tearful crecendo of music while he shared his testimony about how this was the first thing in his life he’d ever worked for. About how he had really honestly earned this, and it was the first time he had something to be proud of. He added that this piece of paper they’d given him made it all official for him. Then there was a camera pan, to the piece of paper in his hands, and the entire thing was polished off in COMIC SANS.
Everything official – via
I nearly fell on the floor, and criminal guy was all, ‘PRISON BREAK!’ He wadded up his piece of paper and lit it on fire and there was a lockdown. So the next episode was a special on how they got the prison back under control, and confiscated all the shanks and other various murderous whatnots. Okay. Not really. And while I was really happy for this man, I almost died. Right there in my yoga pants. And in that moment I wished all our font snob clubbers were right there with me. Snorting their Diet Dr. Peppers through their noses.
Sometimes when I’m alone I use comic sans – via

Beth-I would use some of the sites I’ve provided above, and in the past, to search for some. I’m sure they’ll pop up. Thanks!

Beth, sorry to butt in this conversation, but there is a font called Arr Matey BB. Not sure exactly where I got it, but it was super free.

Speaking of “The Couch” when will you be sharing your couch store??? I love it and am very interested in one. 🙂

An excellent selection, once again! I love being a member of the font snob club 😉
I definitely would have thrown up a little in my mouth if I’d seen that certificate! What a totally lame anti-climax! I’ve always been pretty annoyed that my COLLEGE DIPLOMA is literally just a an 8.5×11 piece of heavyweight paper printed in Times New Roman with a little bit of fancy red embossed writing, but that comic sans certificate makes me feel a bit better. (Still, though, I went to Miami University in Ohio which was founded in 1809! That’s a lot of time to figure out a better diploma, no?)

LOVE these. Thanks so much for taking the time to find these, once again! Adore this series. You’re the best!

You are hilarious. I would have fallen out of my chair. SO funny!!! And people get so mad when someone picks on comic sans. It cracks me up.

Good ones! Thanks as always. This is my favorite comic sans find on Pinterest. You’ve probably seen it, but I just thought I’d share. http://pinterest.com/pin/12525705183998941/

Thank you for posting all of these fonts. I’m just lovin’ them! I used the ones from your last “Font Snob” blog to make a word collage for my new baby’s nursery. It’s on my nursery reveal here http://blessedlifeatopacakestand.blogspot.ca/2012/05/benjamins-nursery.html
I can’t wait to make similar ones for my daughter and other son. I think “wisdom script” or “chopin script” may be just perfect for my daughter.
Thanks again!

Hey! I’m loving the font snob series! Always wishing I had more fonts but never feel like taking the time to find them since the good ones are never free 🙁 random question: Do you happen to know of a good reupholsterer in the Birmingham area? The last two I’ve used were either way too expensive or did mediocre work, like, felt like I should have just done it myself :/

Hey girl! I asked my sister in law, who lives there, and she has no recommendations. She said you should go to Calico Corners and ask them-they should be able to recommend a few. Any of the local fabric stores, for that matter…I hope that helps a little!

This is great! Thanks for your informative (and funny) post! I’m off to try my favorites!

Love these fonts, unfortunately, I have no idea what to do with them!
Am I the only dork in town? Do others actually know what to do once the font is downloaded?
Is there a tutorial coming soon (hint , hint) for us less graphically handy people?
Love every bit of your style! Thanks for the years of eye candy.

Hey girl! Well, honestly I’m only handy with a Mac, so that leaves out most of the population, and I think varies with each computer. I’ll think on it, though!

Wow, I love it when I find other people like me. I have only one friend who shares my Font Snobbery and she recently designed an AMAZING bridal shower invite complete with a beautiful font(of which I don’t know the name). But….when she showed it to the other bridesmaids involved with the shower planning they all stared at it reluctantly and one of them chimed in and requested that perhaps some of the details(perfectly legible) should be in Times New Roman. Ack.
ashley @ the handmade home says
Ha! there’s nothing more frustrating than sharing a planned event with people who don’t get the snobbery. Or even worse, they try to be snobby about all the wrong things, and you disagree. Never ending nightmare!

This is the second font snob post that I have read and after I read the first I had my own experience with comic sans and I feel compelled to tell you because you would understand how ridiculous the situation is: I am a veterinary student, which I take very seriously as a professional as I will soon be a Dr. and it’s expected that the professors will act with the same professionalism as well. Well, my ENTIRE virology powerpoint lectures were written in comic sans…I just about fell out of my seat when I saw it. By the end I could not even stand to look at the slides anymore, and unfortunately I could not change my copy as it was copied to PDF. So I stared at that stupid font for probably 30 hours of lecture and for countless hours of studying. Finally by the end of the quarter I was so excited for the class to be over – a lot of which was because that font.was. driving. me. nuts. Only to sit down for my final and find out that the ENTIRE EXAM (all subjects not just virology) was written in comic sans. As soon as I saw that I was so furious that I couldn’t even look at the exam for a few minutes. To most people I was probably irrationally mad, but to a font snob like me it was as if the test was a joke and the professor did not take us seriously as professionals at all. Please please please DO NOT use comic sans in any sort of medical curriculum!

BEST. STORY. EVER. I read this in the middle of the playground at our church, and I was laughing out loud at my phone. Just FYI. I would have DIED. TWICE. and not in the good sense of the phrase “I die.” that’s terrible! And hilarious that you were so mad. I would have done the very same! Awesome. Let’s be friends.

Just a friendly FYI for anyone downloading … the Steelfish font, only some of the font family is free. Scroll down and you’ll see the bottom 7 fonts are the free ones in that family 🙂

I love your font snob series. My husband and I are typography junkies. I have 3 little ones and find it difficult to tear myself away for ‘adult’ time. Recently my husband and I drove out of town for work (as photographers) but also to go play first. We checked in at a lovely resort, sat down at a 4 star restaurant inside the resort and were handed menus…did I mention it was FOUR STARS?? My growling stomach just about came through my throat when I looked down at what I was preparing to be the most beautiful menu of all time…it was written in comic sans…in BOLD! The horror. We didn’t even have to utter a word, my husband’s eyes met mine…luckily he sees the humor in my madness so his were full of laughter and he grabbed my hand and we left in a hurry…we hit up a whole foods and ate under the stars on somebody’s grassy hill…and there was no comic sans in sight! Thanks for the post!

Hee! I laughed so hard I snorted…I feel the same way about Papyrus. I work at a college designing flyers, mailers, etc. for our department events and when people bring me stuff they typed in Papyrus and then used CLIP ART(!!!), I throw up a little inside 🙂
