a handmade wedding : rustic elegance

Do you guys remember this post?

Our friends, Kara + Baker’s fabulous wedding was this weekend, and if you can recall, we brainstormed, and came up with some ideas and styling for their fun, rustic vision. I had the honor of directing the wedding for these two wonderful families, and it was a blast to share the day with them.

I’m happy to report that all is well, and the entire wedding was an absolute gem of an event. I was lucky enough to be able to snap a few photos during the process, and I can’t wait to show them to you today.

Baker and Kara have a beautiful story, and what I love even more is that these two Godly families coming together that day had some wonderful friends and family to help make it possible, and celebrate the occasion. What I observed was the embodiment of love. From everyone. The older I get, the more I am beginning to appreciate the behind the scenes things that really happen at a wedding…and a true display of love and support from friends and family just doesn’t really get any better than this. I was in awe. This was most definitely 100% handmade, and I know you guys will love it. So without further ado…

The ceremony took place in a field, under a tree where Baker {romantically enough} always wanted to marry his future wife. The seating included borrowed vintage pews, and handmade rows from stumps + barn wood. They were elegantly adorned with simple combinations of mason jars and wild flowers. Handmade signs adorned the site, made by Baker’s super clever older sisters. Mad props.

Of course the bride was gorgeous in her gown, along with all of the wedding party, moms, and family. Cowgirl boots were the order for the day in the uncharacteristically cool Southern Alabama June afternoon. Guests adored the laid back, welcoming feel and with lemonade in hand, the hospitality was like no other.

Before I show you the reception, I want to remind you of a little before and after with the barn. I was able to snap a few photos before the partay started.

Transformation much? If you guys could have seen it in person…this was a hardcore barn. Used for tractors and storage and other various gasoline infused, I-don’t-know-what-nots. It’s come a long way since then…to create a one of a kind reception!

From the lemonade, to handmade chandeliers, cafe lights and intricate china…old windows and layered fabrics with burlap…this wedding was just beautiful.

A guest book made by a friend was a framed tree, and the thumbprints and signatures were added by guests. Something beautiful for them to hang in their home later and double as meaningful decor. We boogied into the night, with the help of some awesome DJ musician combos. I may or may not have performed the sprinkler. And the lawnmower. It’s my signature move, after all. I may or may not have hosted dance partays in college, which included routines we made up…preparing me for this epic moment. What?

A parade of sparklers helped them on their way…

And they lived happily ever after.

Congratulations, Kara, Baker + wonderful families!

I’m so bummed that my own wedding wasn’t really handmade at all. I would have LOVED to put it all together myself, but I live across the country from my parents, and my mom definitely wasn’t up for doing that stuff herself. Oh well, it was still a very special day!

    • Hey Anna! thank you for the kind words, but these were just ideas. The groom’s family and bride’s family took the ideas and ran with it! I’m not even sure who all to give credit to, so many people were involved! They did a spectacular job!
