I feel like there’s probably twenty more words, and I don’t even know what to call them. But no matter what it is, I know I’m certainly a big fan. There are about a million other versions out there, and I think that’s what I love about them.
Continuing on our mini series for handmade nursery ideas, today I thought we’d discuss a quick, simple project you can add, and embellish to make your own. A great way to add lovely insta-character to any wall, space, or room.
This garland was completely free, with all the scrap fabrics and twine I already had…and it made such a fun little statement for Scarlett’s new room.
First things first: You’ll want a few pom poms. They’re super easy, and they were actually our anchor point for the banner. We just hammered with the twine straight through the pom. It completely hid any nails and gave it a super fun, effortless look. So if you’re not familiar with how to make them, be sure to check out this tutorial, here.
Make as many as you like, but this version took four in different colors.
From there, decide what fun fabrics you wish to use. I cut a rectangle for a template, from paper. Folding it in half, vertically, I cut inward toward the fold, on a diagonal line. Just like I would if I were cutting an old school ribbon.
I played with it on the floor, above the actual mirror that it was hung above, to make sure I had the correct length, number of mini flags for the banner, and correct colors.
Once they were all cut, I simply took the top portion of the fabric, barely folded it over at the top, around the twine, and glued it with my hot glue gun. {You only need your setting on low for this-watch out for those ever painful burned fingers!}
Tada! A simple, one of a kind, virtually free project for any space. Make it larger, longer or smaller for parties, hanging freely from wall to wall, or… the possibilities are endless.
I’ve created quite a few banners now, and all of them could be adapted to work with your own colors for a nursery. For more ideas, click here: {metallic+always} {pinwheel1} {pinwheel 2} {a scrap garland}
Tada! One of a kind freebie artwork for your space-loaded with personality. As always, let us know if you it-we’d love to see! Have an inspired day!

I. Love. Bunting! I made some for my son’s nursery and its probably my favorite part. He loves to just lay there and stare at the colors. http://blessedlifeatopacakestand.blogspot.ca/2012/05/benjamins-nursery.html

I love banners too! It’s one of my favorite gifts to make for friends who are expecting or as welcome gifts for their new bundles of joy. I made this one for my niece (http://www.ahouseofpayne.blogspot.com/2011/10/nothing-says-welcome-to-family-like.html) and this one for a friend’s daughter (http://www.ahouseofpayne.blogspot.com/2012/02/happy-birthday-haydin.html) and included their names on each banner flag. I love your idea to add the pom poms!

Super cute! A quick tip for hot glue projects; to avoid the burned finger tip try using a rubber thimble. It is flexible enough to work with while still keeping your fingertip safe from the hot glue.

The Scrap Fabric banner is a favorite of mine. I tied the fabric on a strand of white lights and hang them outside of my trailer when we go camping. So pretty, love your selection of fabrics.
