haven 2012

Hey Hey to all our favorite people! I guess some of you know the Haven Conference was this last week. And I have to say, the ladies who put it on, did quite a beyond amazing job. I know it was a ton of work, and from the inspiring key note speakers, to the food, to the classes, and everything in between…it was just a real treat to be a part of it!

It was a great time to meet up and refresh with friends of new and old. And I met so many awesome new people…bear with me while I do the post-conference thing and share a few photos I snapped?

The talent, ingenuity, and kindness I was surrounded by at that one table, kind of floored me. {From left to right: Angela from Button Bird Designs, The nester from The Nesting Place, Joni from Lay Baby Lay, and Erin from Two Story Cottage.}

John and Sherry were just as adorable and hilarious in real life, as they are on their site. I walked away feeling inspired by what they had to say. Someone I wasn’t able to snap a photo with was Ana White. I loved finally getting to hug/meet her… She was an absolute sweetheart! You know when you meet someone for the first time, and you just hit it off? Darlene from Fieldstone Hill Design is the super fun, über talented creative gal who would officially be my shopping buddy, confidante, and partner and crime. {Amongst twenty other things, I just know it.}

It’s always a blast to embarrass yourself, and not realize who you’re speaking to until after the fact {::cough:: sorry again, Angela} But meeting these gals were a real treat! Linda from Craftaholics Anonymous + Jamielyn from I Heart Naptime (who I’m pretty sure I called Jamie the entire time, like a total dork) were two super sweet gals who I definitely wish I lived closer to!

Jamin came straight from Mexico {He had been out of the country building houses for the families in a local village, and his flight oh so conveniently landed in Atlanta. Thanks to our fabulous babysitter, he was able to drop in.} Of course, we had to take a cheesy pic, courtesy of the sweet people at Homes.com. He’s a pretty princess, no?

Kristin and Melissa were simply refreshing…I loved catching up with them. Kate was fabulous as always. She embodies down to earth. We kind of have this trad…

Where we morph into 16 year olds in front of the camera. Because that’s how we roll.

I’m not really sure why I have an Herbal Essence awkward shampoo commercial look on my face. I’m such a spaz.

We went to a super fun Tapas place one night-I’ve never had Tapas, but I have to say it’s my new favorite. (And when they first said where they were going, I thought it was something else…just sayin’.) From left to right, Me + the fabulous Linda + super fun Ann Marie. Photo courtesy of the very sweet Jessica-another person I should have snagged a photo with!

From left to right, some of my favorite people: Erin (Two Story Cottage), Kate (Centsational girl), Logan (Life for Dessert), Joni (Lay Baby Lay), and Michelle (Ten June) - will be having her first sweet baby in just a few months’ time-doesn’t she look awesome?

I could listen to Traci {Beneath My Heart} tell stories for hours. She’s hilarious and I love her take on life in general.

I loved meeting Stacy (Not Just a Housewife) +  Wendy (The Shabby Nest) Standing here with sweet Layla (The Lettered Cottage) + me.

Rashon (Mr. Goodwill Hunting) + Joni (Lay Baby Lay) won the award for most stylin’. No, not really. But in my world, yes. If Joni lived in the same town, we just may be the obnoxiously inseparable people who were always doing projects together…oh wait. Maybe I’d just stalk her.

Erin one of the sweetest, most genuine gals I know + Logan who is riotously hilar. As in, I wonder where she’s been all my life.

Which brings me to my always wonderful roomie Shaunna, who I am fortunate enough to live near, caught a little something the day before the conference began. And by a little something, I mean she was sick in the worst possible way. And by sick in the worst possible way, I mean think my sister’s wedding. I was totally having PTS flashbacks. I was so sad for her, and kind of worried, so I hoped to help/stay out of her hair as much as possible, by pushing sprite and saltines in her general direction…and not torturing her by staying up for late night girly talks. I think that was a bonus she was probably grateful for. This was taken on the last day, when, thankfully, she was feeling a bit better!

Of course, Nester was available to provide a little in room entertainment. And this is why we love her.

After the fabulous Haven was over, and we all said our goodbyes, we headed to the Aquarium. Only by the time we arrived, the wait was around three hours. So we headed to the coke museum, instead.

And they still had a blast.

My favorite {apart from awesome font overload-I still think I missed my calling in set design + mega cool vintage Coke memorabilia} was this amazing chandy created from, you guessed it, recycled coke bottles. Yes please.

Does anyone out there own a blow torch? Because I’m on this sucka like glue.

So we headed home…

And absolutely conked out.

I’ll conquer the Mt. Vesuvius of laundry when I get to it…

There were so many amazingly talented, super sweet women I was thankful to be able to meet and see again…know we’re totally inspired by all of you. It truly was a treat.

Have an inspired day, everyone!

Updated: Because I just think you should read this comment if you’ve never been to a conference before…

hehe, friend, I couldn’t have done it without you. P.S. Just ate “normally” for the first time last night. TBD how that goes. :-) Thank you for all of your help–maybe next time would be a little less pukey and weird, huh??
    xoxo,
    shaunna

  2. Nester says:

OH my word I am laughing SO hard right now.

    LOVED every minute with you!

  3. Tiffany says:

I really enjoyed reading this post! Looks like you had a blast. Luckily Hollon escaped the virus that attacked some of the others in Mexico. And can I say your kids are so adorable! Great pictures. Especially the dancing one…

    • Tiffany-So glad Hollon didn’t get sick. Haley had to have an IV! Jamin BARELY escaped. Just BARELY. ;} I think he fought it off, and I we’re in the clear. I was worried he was going to be sick and give it to our kids. I was surrounded by voms! ;} Bless them.

  4. Loved all of your pictures Ashley! I wish we could rewind a few days and go back?! It was so nice to meet you in person and have a chance to chat you with you. Back to reality now, huh? Have a great week!

  6. Lesley says:

    Ashley,
Thanks so much for the awesome re-cap. My mom and I are into are seventh month of blogging but I so want to go to a conference. This post makes me even more motivated because you can tell that there are so many warm, funny, crazy and supportive people that all understand one another and this crazy world of blogging. I was worried we would be a little like the “new” kids but looking at you post I think we’d fit right in. Thanks again so much for your refreshing and hilarious re-cap.

    • Lesley-this is what I love love LOVE about this group of bloggers. I’ll be honest, sometimes conferences can make you feel a little icky. And sometimes I feel insecure and a little weird. Sometimes I panic over what I said…wondering if I was a complete moron. ;} I guess that’s what makes us human. Sometimes I don’t want to post photos because I don’t want to leave anyone out or make anyone feel weird. But I posted it for this reason…to give due to credit to all of these sweet ladies, whether they were pictured, mentioned, or not. I can honestly tell you we’re all in the same boat. These fabulous bloggers reached out to me my first time around, and I guarantee we will all continue to do so. It’s a marathon, and we’re in this together. There’s just so much to glean from the simple communion of being together. So please do come to the next one! I, and at least one hundred and fifty other wonderful bloggers, would love to meet you!

Ashley, Thanks so much for your response you are too kind. Now that I have blog-stalked your for about 30 minutes I’ve now realized you are in Nashville too! Did you go to Blissdom @ the Gaylord this year and how does that compare to Haven? If you and any local bloggers ever get together let me know, I’m in. Thanks again. And by the way love the Coke bottle Chandelier. My husband and son went to the Coke factory this year but all I heard about were all the different types of awesome Cokes. Lesley

  7. What a fantastic recap! :) I’m so glad I got to meet you, even if I was a bit distracted by worrying about my sick kiddo at home. You are just one of the fabulously talented ladies I am honored to have met! And you also have just adorable kiddos. ;) Glad we got to meet!

  8. Destiny says:

Ahhh! It looked like so much fun!! Is it wierd that I was totally daydreaming about my face photoshoped into each photo…lol! I can’t wait to squeeze your face one of these days!!! Xoxo

  9. [Stamps feet in toddler fashion] I wish I could have been there!!!! Would you hang out with me, even though I’m just an Etsy girl, not a blogger? I promise I’m fun :) I’m going to start saving so I can go next year!

  10. Great recap Ashley! I have to say I was super nervous about my first conference ever, but you’re so right, everyone was so warm and welcoming! Definitely can’t wait to go back next year!

And maybe next year we can chat more :)

  11. Loved reading your recap. I was hoping to attend this year, but my son had final exams and my husband was away. I’m hoping to meet all you fantastic people at the next one. It’s great to hear that people have fun and don’t take it too seriously!

  12. Hi Cute Ashley, It was so fun to finally meet you in person at Haven! You are just as adorable in person as you are on your blog! I loved this recap, it sure made me smile. Can’t wait to catch up at Haven next year! :-)

  13. Centsational Girl says:

Such an awesome recap my friend, our poor friend Shaunna! So nice to see Haven through your eyes, and dear God, what are we thinking each time we get in front of a camera together? We’re so wierd, but I love it!!!
Miss you – wished we could have hung out at the Aquarium on Sat, say hi to Mr. HH – he’s so awesome, and until we meet again…. Kodak moments await.
    :)
    Kate

  14. {darlene} says:

I love love loved meeting you. And I agree, i pretty much think we are going to be , no scratch that, ALREADY ARE:
“shopping buddy, confidante, and partner in crime” -type-friends. Oh, yes.
    When shall we shop????
My only regret about Haven: not creating Herbal Essence photos with Ashley of Handmade Home.
    alas.

  15. Um….I’ve been wondering where you’ve been all my life too! Seriously! Had a BU-LAST with you! It’s happening again! Fo real!

  16. Such a great recap!! This was my first conference so I was literally meeting everyone for the very first time. I can only imagine how fun it will be next year when I’ll get to “reconnect” with those I met this year.
And maybe I’ll actually introduce myself to you instead of just watching you sit on the floor beside me. hahaha :)

  17. And I thought our group had fun! You guys look like you took it to the next level! I haven’t made it all the way through my cards but I don’t think I was lucky enough to run into your group…hopefully next year. I commented right below you on ReFresh ReStyles page and saw that you just did a Haven post. Had to be nosy. Glad I did, now I have another fun blog to follow!!

  18. Candice says:

Hi Ashley! I’ve read your blog for a while and was so so so happy to meet you at Haven! You are adorable! Thanks for saying hi to me at my first blog conference!

  19. Joni says:

Love your recap, Ashley! It was so fun getting to meet you in person.:) Totally wished we lived closer together! I hope to see you again soon because it was much too short! (p.s. Sorry for the late comment – I was in a black hole of epic computer failure yesterday – yikes!)

  20. Amanda Eck says:

Im so glad I pushed past my awkwardness and met you at the Darlene, Erika & Sherry’s session. I literally for two days kept seeing you and saying “I know that girl”, well not “know” her but you know in that “Ive been on her blog & seen her face before” …anyway Im a dork- but soooo glad to have met you face to face and now I will regularly be here to visit you & your blog! :-)

  21. Fun recap! I hate writing recap posts – they are SO hard. Mine spent 48 hours in my draft box.

I love that moving pic of the Nester on the bed. Too funny!

And your description of me is kind. Very kind. :) :)

And I want to eat Tapas. Next year…
