Hello all you fabulous people! So I’ve un-officially dubbed this week “easy peasy” week here at the handmade home. Because we had a few easy peasy ideas pop up that we wanted to share with you, and sometimes it’s nice to take a break from the complicated projects we love to delve into. We love both, but the easy things are a necessary + nice little breather. That, and I like saying the phrase easy peasy.
Rice and cheesy.
Today, we’re continuing (and wrapping up) our handmade nursery ideas...little Scarlett is on her way, and I can’t wait to A. meet her and B. share her beautimous nursery with all of you guys! You’ve had a few sneak peeks here and there, but we should have the full reveal as soon as we can get to nashville and pummel everyone else who’s already held her just so I can hold my niece and get my baby fix in just a few weeks! (Stay tuned…anyone else find it hard to live far away from your family? I hate it! ;})
So today, I thought I’d share something super simple with all of you that we tackled that weekend when we knocked out their nursery. While we know that trim on curtains is not a novel idea in itself, it’s a great way to add a pop of color, and an additional interest. Sometimes, it’s that forgotten element in a room. And you can even do it without sewing…
We had two simple panels from World Market, and this fringe my brother picked out all by himself we picked up at the local fabric store to use as a dainty accent.
I’m ashamed to say that these are the first ever curtains I’ve ever not sewn completely…and it was quite refreshing to start with an already made piece! I simply pinned the trim on…and allowing room for the rod pocket, I looped it over the top, pinning it on the other side where the hem for the rod pocket stopped. I then continued it all the way down, on the outer side, looping it underneath the other end, when I reached the end of the panel.
When I began actually sewing the trim on, I simply started below the rod pocket, and because it was secured with pins on the other side, it stayed in place. You could easily substitute the sewing part with hem tape, or even a hot glue gun. Just decide on if you plan to wash them…unless there’s a poop/spit up/apple juice explosion, that’s probably not very likely.
Oh wait. Never mind. This would be why we sewed them, as they are positioned directly in the line of fire…but I would still use the hand wash cycle. ;}
…and after the second run we were finito!
It certainly softens the windows, and brings another pop of color into the space!
Just a little something, that sometimes is so simple, we tend to forget about the element it brings to a room.
What have you trimmed out lately in your homes? I’d love to see!
Have an inspired day, everyone!

After reading my story, I think you’ll be glad you decided to sew them. 3 days after my little girl came home from the hospital I heard my husband exclaim: “Oh dear God!” from her nursery. Of course I asked what was wrong. He replied “There’s poop!”. She had been jaundiced so I said “That’s great.” He then told me “It’s everywhere”. I walked into her nursery to find that a poosplosion had occurred and it was indeed EVERYWHERE (on the bedding of the twin bed in her room, on the picture frames on the wall, in the carpet, dripping down the walls, and amazingly enough on the nightstand all the way across the room). All I could do was laugh. Thankfully everything was washable. Needless to say the hubby now changes diapers with Amelia’s booty facing the wall! 🙂

You just kicked my butt to finally sew the yellow trim on to my curtains. The sewing machine is coming out today! And it’s raining so I have no excuse to run to the beach.

haha so happy I could oblige…but I empathize with your run to the beach ;}

Love the curtains! We put chevron trim on the curtains in my son’s nursery and I just love them. We used Ikea panels and then added the trim for a little something extra! I agree, “easy peasy” but so worth it!!

After 8 weeks of summer sewing classes, I think – no I KNOW I can do that! Woohoo! Now I just need Photoshop class and photography class. Oh well.
Those curtains are great! I want my sister to have kids so I can do her nursery. And I wouldn’t mind the baby either!
Can’t wait to see the whole thing. Simple projects are good!

Have you ever had luck finding longer panels? My house needs more like 100″ length and I am beginning to think that doesn’t exist. The reason mine all have to be made.
