Hello lovely holidaisical hooplah apocalyptic champions!
We’re almost there ::virtual high fives and awkward in air chest bumps for all involved::
Today, in the name of all things last minute, I thought I’d share a little handmade gift we did for our teachers this year. While some of you may be all, That’s a good story, we’re already out of school. Shut up I hate you. Strong language aside, I was thinking you may be in search of something fun for someone else, or you could store this away for later {read: other events for your teacher, like the end of the year.}
I just felt like this was a fun little take away from the typical.
These are simple hand cut letters, basically following our past tutorials that you can find here and the fabulous fabric covered option here + my sister’s wedding version because I’m an overachieving dork (if you want to read about it in greater detail) but here’s what we did:
We selected a font of choice, and had it printed on a transparency. (Check out our other tutes for the details on that) If you don’t have access to a transparency, you can always do a smaller version by printing in a larger format and using that printed, cut out letter as your traced template.
Once cut, we put on a coat of dark grey.
When that was dry, we hit it with a lighter layer of grey (in this fabulous stencil)
{See another version of this stencil finito in our home, here}
It gave these letters a different, fun look, but also kept it neutral in the color department. We topped it off with Minwax’s Early American using our ‘tea stain‘ technique. {And by technique, I am referring to the fact that we wiped it on… wiped it off… Tada!}
We’re hoping this brightens up our teachers’ day!
Though I’ve solemnly sworn not to do the last minute gift fiasco freak out, that is also a good story. It’s just easier said than done. (It takes some major self control and disregard for what others may think of you if you accidentally left them off your list.) For some last minute super simple ideas, be sure to check out last year’s post, here. Minus the stress. It’s all about leaving out the stress. ;}
Have an amazing day my friends! If you have littles, enjoy them being at home with you! I know I am going to soak up every minute.
Have an inspired day!
