We were honored to first feature this nursery about two years ago, and sometimes it’s fun to visit them again… So without further ado, a little eye candy in the form of a gender neutral nursery – for those of you who may be looking for a little inspiration… even if it’s not for a nursery, you’d be surprised where you can find it.
So when my college friend Ryan posted a shot of their sweet baby’s nursery on Instagram, I kind of totally a little bit freaked out. Slightly.
I immediately turned into a super stalker and asked if they would be gracious enough to share some of these beautiful images with our wonderful readers. He and his super creative wife April put this oh-so-pretty nursery together for their new sweet bundle of joy, Samantha. The kicker? They had no idea if Samantha would be a boy or a girl. Proof that a gender neutral nursery can be absolutely gorgeous, no? Sit back, relax and enjoy the über gorgeous eye candy! {Sources included at the end of this post}
What was your and April’s greatest challenge with creating the space? The design was all April. Typically I have some input but her vision was awesome! April’s greatest challenge was creating something sweet/ cute that was gender neutral and not so cutesy or in your face baby.
But here is the cutesy in your face baby. She’s kind of the best accessory. I’m pretty sure her parents wholeheartedly agree. ;}
What is your favorite element? Wallpaper for sure. Via Hygge and West
It feels super personal even though you had no idea ‘what’ Samantha would be. (We did the same with our third, and it was the best ever – his nursery was our fave.) A lot of people shy away from that because they’re too much of a “control freak” I hear this all the time. Your nursery is a perfect example of how beautiful and simple a nursery for a “surprise baby” can be. ;} Did you bring anything from your own childhoods into the space? The tall dresser was refinished by April’s dad and has been in her family for a few generations. It was used by April’s dad and April as well. The Brass owl was something my grandmother had and I received a few years back when she passed. With all the birds in there it fit great.
We love “pieces” and don’t feel that anything really needs to match to feel right together. April is really good at gathering these things and putting them together in an eclectic/bohemian feel. Everyone told us we were nuts to not find out – and what were we going to do with the nursery. We aren’t the types to paint a nursery pink or blue even if we knew so this was fun to design it in a way that was sweet regardless of the gender. As a result we really enjoy spending time in the space as well.
Can you tell us a little about the art in the nursery? The Three art frames above the crib are from one of our favorite artist – Michelle Armas. We have a large piece of hers and wanted to bring some of the color into Samantha’s room. These are from her Calendar and each is signed/numbered. Art above the tall dresser is a screen-print April has had forever. No clue the artist.
Now let’s all pause and oogle again over their beautiful baby girl. Kinda makes me want another (for 3 entire seconds). ;} Because… you haven’t seen the bathroom yet. Here’s a shot of the bathroom before:
And here’s what happened when they worked their magic:
This is another part of Samantha’s nursery – an extension of her space that added a ton of personality! We bought a original ’67 contemp home 2.5 years ago and we are slowly making our way through a 5 year renno. I know… we are out of our minds Um, no…. you’re just like us. ;} Keep those photos comin’ mmmkay?
Can you tell us about that awesome chair? It’s a Midcentury “LOVE” Chair. This is a chair that was vintage and recreated by Jonathan Adler at the “Parker Hotel” in Palm Springs where we got engaged. It has become a theme in our lives – our dog is named Parker, we used the “love symbol” as our Wedding theme. We were fortunate enough to find this at an Antique market locally and had to have it.
I adore the simple use of a yellow and grey. Those shower curtains doubled up make the shower feel like more of a fun window or stage than an actual (sometimes obligatory) bathtub! It’s so crisp.
Amazing job, guys!

I’m in love with the ceiling in Samantha’s room. Did April paint that, or is that wall paper? If it’s wall paper, where did she source that? thanks đ
Jessica Reese says
So totally in love with the wallpaper ceiling. I can settle for nothing other than that for my bedroom. How big is that room, and how many rolls did you need?
Mary says
For anyone who is interested in the glider, it is available via Amazon:

It’s a little more expensive than it was on Target.com, but at least it’s available!
