Hey friends!
Today, we thought we’d drop in with a fun little project I decided to knock out this week. I was in Publix the other day, when I saw a few of these little wooden spoons on the aisle in a packet for 2 whopping dollars. So I scooped a few of them up, and took them home.
I love the look of wooden accessories in a kitchen. I think it looks so fun, and wanted to put my own twist on some.
I stained each one with a coat of stain (which really worked out quite prettily in subtle ways on each one) and when it was dry…
Added little stripes to the handles. I used varying widths of brushes + colors, and then simply added paint. The handle was so narrow, it was fairly easy to stay straight. Basically just hold your brush steady and rotate the spoon as you go.
The colors were something we already had sitting in our garage. I’m an amateur paint collector. People regularly pay admission to see our bent up paint cans and old discarded brushes. True story.
Here’s the colors we used: Martha Stewart’s Gold Liquid Gilding, Benjamin Moore’s: Silver Song, Down Pour Blue, Once Upon a Time + Million Dollar Baby. For the stain: Minwax’s Early American. Tada! Some super fun spoons.
Just an obligatory side note: These are for decor purposes only. I mean, I’m sure you could ingest lots of chemicals and stuff, but we wouldn’t recommend it. ;}
They sit oh so prettily on my countertop like a little instacollection! And I leave my real wooden spoon uncontaminated for the good stuff. Like my mom’s homemade lasagne and brownies. ;} MMMM.
So fun!
Have an inspired day, friends… and as usual let us know if you try it!

I love these! 🙂 So fun and they add such prettiness! I just got in some wooden spoons from Amazon and I wish I could go home and paint them but they are for cooking actually…wonder what would happen if I just painted the handle part? 😛
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!! 🙂

Oh man, this would be PERFECT for this random pitcher I INSISTED on keeping even though we don’t use it. I figured it’d be great for decor but I couldn’t figure out what to put in it! Now I have the perfect idea!!

Hi Ashley! I love these! They are so cute! What a fun project! I’m also wondering if you didn’t stain them and just painted the handle part if they would hold up to actually using them for food, etc. I might just have to give it a whirl! Thanks for the inspiration! Have a great weekend! Mindy

I love this idea. I have purchased wooden spoons from Ikea before as a project for my kids. They color them with markers and make great designs. I will try this painting idea in my new kitchen. Thanks!

These are adorable! Any idea how the paint holds up with use and washing?
ashley @ the handmade home says
Hey Julie! I certainly wouldn’t use them with food. I don’t plan on washing mine! ;}
