painted lamp shade (I love lamp)

When our friend Kristin posted a few weeks ago on the painted trend, we were digging a few of the items she found for her round-up. I’m on the hunt for a lamp, and I fell head over heels for this one.

anthropologie_lampA few tiny problems: A. They don’t carry that base online at anthro, and B. The shade alone was a teensy bit not so much by one hundred dollars in our price range. So (surprise!) I decided to cook one up of my own, instead.

It’s definitely my own, with the same great effect as the inspiring piece, at a fraction of the would-be price. {We’re going to generously guess around 450.} Here’s what I did!

I was literally standing in the middle of Tarjay when I had this epiphany. I am sure if you wanted to reproduce the original shade, it would be with a white one, but I was going for a different look, and fell in love with the black. So I scooped up this shade + this base and brought them home.

Breaking out the fabric paint, and a brush I already had, I painted a stripe on the top (loosely, for that painted look).

And then on the bottom, and in the middle. I simply adjusted it as I went, the beauty of the ‘painted’ look being that I couldn’t really ruin this lampshade. Just gently blur the lines as you go, and you’re good. No perfection needed. Also, I’m pretty sure I could turn this lampshade into a good metaphor.

See what I did there?

I couldn’t resist.

Oh, and I guess you might be noticing that super deep blue that I’m oh so excited about… stay tuned. One of our spaces is a construction zone.

I let the kiddos pick this color per their request (after I gently swayed Emerson far far away from Barney-vom-purple).

Tada! Super excited about this pretty little lamp! Have an inspired day, y’all!

I too heart this shade. And “blurred lines” are very on trend this summer too…just as Alan Thicke. :)
