We loved sharing all of the little how-tos in our bedroom reveal this fall, but we never shared our very favorite part: The bed. And while we sure do love that headboard, we have to say that our favorite part is… the actual mattress.
Two words: Game. Changer.
This Saturday has been officially proclaimed as a pajama day, and we’ve announced {to each other} that we will be watching all things holiday classics on this bad boy, in various versions of ill-fated hues of green and red jammies. We’re firm believers in the fact that surviving the holidaisical apocalypse all begins with keeping our sanity in a good nights’ sleep, and knowing when to rest when we need it. And that rule applies to more than just the little ones, as Ashley has been known to get a little hangry and grumpy when her sleep isn’t up to par.
So without further ado… a little bit of our experience with this addition that would make a one of a kind oh so unexpected gift {and no judging if it’s totally for yourself}. It’s all in the details when it comes to rest!

In college, I had the good fortune of not having to share a room with anyone until right before my final year when I told my parents I wanted to move in with some friends and that I would share a bedroom with one of my roommates. With great concern, my parents sat me down to remind me of my somewhat introverted ways and my need for privacy.
They really wanted me to think about this.
And they were right. I’ve always been spoiled wanted somewhere to just be, and not be bothered. Imagine my transition to married life, and then kids. Let’s just say there’s a reason I love camping so much.
At times, over the last few months, I truly began to wonder if the beer can apocalypse redo would ever come to an end. To say we were a bit crowded would be an understatement.
My beauty rest was scarce.
After a few stints of sleeping on the couch while things were torn a part and put back together, I wanted something for me. I’d gone along with the purple pillow and even occasionally let Ashley borrow my sleeping mask, but it was time to man up and get something for just me.
Merry Christmas, me.
I discovered this new mattress: the ComforPedic IQ. And let’s be honest… not all mattresses are created equal, especially when you weigh more than a chihuahua and need honest support and comfort.
What’s so great about this beauty, is that it adjusts to you throughout the night, without any go-go gadget gizmos. No buttons to push or settings to find… it simply, beautifully and intelligently reads your body and adjusts to your weight for the perfect comfort. They call it Smart Response(TM) Technology. I call it happiness.
Basically, it automatically calibrates to your body’s weight and position for personalized support. Each. Side.
No fighting over support level or waking up in the middle of the night to adjust it, it simply does it for you. And if there’s two of you in the bed… or three, or four {as sometimes occurs in our household} It will adjust.
One of the younglings heard the advertisement that “the technology intuitively adapts to your every move during the night, so the mattress ensures that you get your best sleep at night, as well as provides continued positive results after you get out of bed.” This prompted said youngling to assert that they would be a better student if allowed to sleep on the new mattress.
Nice try kid, nice try.
It gets even better though, it has a memory foam top for that extra comfort and luxury. I’m not kidding when I say there was a collective “oh my!” uttered when we first laid down on it, followed by several minutes of silence. That is, until the offspring found us.
The Ultra Cool(TM) Memory Foam also helps maintain a comfortable temperature for cool, comfortable sleep… which in the tropics of Alabama, is an essential. We’ve been sleeping on ours for over a month now, and we’re absolutely in love.
Not only does it have all this cool technology for an amazing nights sleep, but it’s made right here in the good ole U.S. of A., where it is the only clinically tested mattress that combines self adjusting technology and the better memory foam.
That’s a lot of words to say there’s science to back it up.
You can see and read a lot more about the innovation behind the mattress here. Or check out the social media channels. (facebook, twitter, pinterest)
In the meantime, you can find me hiding from everyone with my sleep mask, enjoying the best nap ever.
Shhh don’t tell anyone.
While it may sound like a little bit of an unexpected choice in the land of all things gifts, we’ve loved making this switch! Our backs most certainly thank us.
A mattress is one of those essentials we don’t often think about, until we need it.
Just like rest.

Jamin –
Sometimes practical gifts (like water softeners and vacuum cleaners and mattresses) are the best choice for ‘grown-up’ Christmas gifts.
And as soon as I typed that, I could feel the spears and rocks and rotten tomatoes and toaster ovens being thrown at me. {Sorry ladies — but it’s true!}
I’m sure the new mattress is like sleeping on a cloud — but that mask has to be a big part of the restful experience too.
I gotta get me one of those.
; )
Have a great weekend,
Michael

I still just cannot get over the transformation in your bedroom! I have been reading along since Ashley sewed the white slipcover for the armchair and the room was laid out differently and the room literally looks 3 times bigger now! It just doesn’t even look like it can be the same space! My fave redo you guys have done yet!
