It’s to the point where it’s all in the details.
The trim. The electrician polishing up a few things. HVAC had to do so much work on this house, it should be brand new when they’re all said and done… the work they’ve done is phenomenal. The vent inside the hood… {That hood isn’t finito just yet. Wait for it.}
A little paint here and there via yours truly. These ceilings were almost our end… but they were totally worth it.
We started on the stairs on Friday, and were able to come back Saturday for a second coat of poly when we knew they wouldn’t be tread upon.
‘Tread upon’ just felt so formal, yet grammatically correct/British or something.
I was thrilled to snag a few photos with no one around and in better lighting than before.
Don’t worry… I’ll be cleaning it all up with some crisp white paint.
Lookin’ good, stairs.
I’ve always been a gal who saved our big reveals for the grand finale. Can you tell this goes outside my comfort zone? But it’s also fun to be inside the process, too. We’re not finished yet, y’all.
Side note: We probably never will be.
The floors {Pergo floors in Flint Maple} are in, which have totally transformed the space. And Jamin’s back.
This photo doesn’t come close to doing them justice. And we won’t be able to, until they’re cleaned up. We love them, though.
And I’m in love with our appliances. And countertops. And pot filler. And sink. And faucet. And beams. And tile. And…
Ready for me to stop yet?
A few things need to be completed, and we’re hoping beyond hope that these peeps are timely… and fair… because after that we can apply for our certificate of occupancy {despite the fact that our basement is still untouched} and finally… drum roll please… move in.
When we dropped the kids off for school the other morning, our principal came to the car door and asked if we were close. “SO close,” I sighed as I breathed my coffee breath and sat oddly in my paint covered yoga pants with weird hair and crazy eyes. “We’re ready to not be a total train wreck.” Then I added a nervous laugh, like that was a joke…
I’m not sure the train wreck part will magically go away when we move in. But one can hope.
Here’s also to hoping you guys don’t hear from us in a while because we’re drowning in boxes.
We’re in love with our community and the area we’ve kind of fallen into. We keep talking about all the fun things we want to do… like eat a candied apple in downtown Franklin while we stroll and window shop. Or cook a full fledged family meal and invite some friends over. Or run out into the back yard, and jump into the frigid pool, just because I can.
Jamin said he’s holding me to that one.
Maybe we can get a pool heater next year and I actually will.
Wondering what’s going on each side of this kitchen? In case you’re just tuning in, to the left will be our eventual punch through to the addition.
Key word, eventual. But the good news is, after what we’ve been through with septic, we won’t have to do it again. In the meantime, I plan on adding a big fat pretty little plate rack with some colorful variation. And on the right, we’re adding a desk with built in shelves.
These yellow cords are our required power source for the backsplash. So instead of punching through our tile, we’re hiding a power strip underneath a shelf we’ve built… stay tuned. It’s little things like this we can’t wait to finish up {hoping for this week}.
(sources: beams, countertops and fabrication)
Oh, and they also added feet/bases to the cabinets. They polish it up oh so prettily now that the hardwoods are in.
We’ve come such a long way from that before.
It feels like I’m waving a flag in the air proclaiming, “No, we haven’t totally lost our minds!”… at least… I don’t think.
Stay tuned.
Feeling grateful, and ready to soak it all in.
Have an inspired day!

I love the “in progress” posts, so thank you for sharing! They may be less dramatic than the before and afters, but they’re much more real. And let’s face it, we spend most of life in the “in progress” phase.
