Hello all! Here you can find a compilation of a few FAQ’s…and maybe a little something of what you’ve been looking for!
Q: How on earth do you pronounce Jamin’s name?
A: Yes, this is a very real question that we receive on a regular basis. We know it’s kind of different. We also always know how to gauge a telemarketer by their inability to pronounce it. Not Jammin in Jamaica. But Jay-men. Like the end of the name Benjamin which coincidentally means son-of Jamin. We still argue to this day, the origin of Malone’s first name. {Benjamin Malone was named after my grandfather. Jamin still says that it is literally ‘Son of Jamin,’ and may or may not have lifted him to the heavens a-la the lion king in the hospital pronouncing his name.} I may or may not have reminded him that I’m not lame like that. We kept Malone a surprise, so of course, I swore on my life he was a girl. Jamin {Jay-men} was pleased as punch to be oh so triumphant, and thus the awkward sky lifting of the sleeping, swaddled babe, apparently destined for greatness (even though this was our third.) The nurse was all, congratulations, you are a dork.
Q: I love that blue in your laundry room. What colors do you use in your home? Where can I find a list of those?
A: You can find a complete list of our colors in our home, here!
Q: I am looking for a few good fabric resources. I also need help picking some out. Can you help, or do you have any tips?
A: There’s nothing quite like a good fabric! You can read all about a few tips and tricks we like to follow when selecting that latest fabric, as well as some great resources, here. We also have a post on mixing patterns, here.
Q: What kind of camera do you use?
A: We recently “upgraded” from a Canon Rebel XTI {still a great, dependable camera we’ve owned for 5 years} to a Canon 60D. And this little beauty is well worth the investment. You’d be proud to know that yes, we do shoot on manual {Perhaps you can probably tell from our shoddy photos but hey…we try!} We alternate between three main lenses that are also well worth the investment: {Sigma=considerably more affordable + same great quality} 17-50mm F2.8 +10-20mm F4-5.6. We also use a Canon 50mm fixed lens. Oh, and buy a tripod if you’re going to be shooting interiors. You can thank us later. ;}
Q: I’m thinking of upgrading to my first ‘non-kit’ lens. Have any recommendations?
A: Actually, and we had a dear friend recommend this one: if you’re just getting the hang of things, have children, and want to practice with something fun and affordable, go for the Canon 50mm fixed lens. It doesn’t zoom, thus the “fixed” but It’s a great, non expensive lens upgrade, and is fun to play with in ways of that oh so coveted blurry background for those up close, detailed shots. It’s a great place to begin.
Q: Do you paint the things we see in your home? Do you sell them?
A: Everything you see on our walls, frames included, {with the exception of a few} have been made by us. Ashley began as an art major and graphic designer. She loves oil painting, and hopes to delve back into it in the future. It’s probably her number one passion in terms of all things creative. But in the (much loved) harried constrictions of life with three young kids, she only dabbles occasionally. We just recently began reproducing high quality prints of some of her paintings, you can read more about that here. You can also score some fun designs per us, for free, here!
Q: I want to paint our fridge like yours. The husband says it would chip and look bad. How’s it holding up?
A: We say go for it. Read an update on our fridge situation, here. We love it and while people call it brave we simply call it rational. It was ugly. So we painted. What’s the worst that could happen? Just go for it!
Q: Are you currently taking anyone on as clients?
A: We are currently taking on clients for online and local redo’s. For more information either email Jamin or check out this post.
