Some of you probably read my post on spruce-ups and Beyonce’s single ladies: Put a back on it. This one’s titled: put a spindle on it. Yeah. Okay. Too far. I need to get a life. But that song is totally stuck in my head.
Remember this post about our island redo?
…and…remember this post about our whirlwind nashville flea market trip?
I totally scored some spindles. Not of my own accord…we were at the flea market, with my sister in law, who ran into her sister, who was with her friends…{shout out to the friends of Emily!} and they all went after these spindles…and I wasn’t aware that you can purchase spindles, nor had the thought really occured to me to purchase spindles with any specific goal in mind… and short story long, I purchased three spindles of my own. I wanted to be cool, too. I knew exactly what to do with them…
The Jamester helped me cut these puppies in half, lengthwise. I started with only three. If I work a table saw, I squeal and jerk my hand awkwardly even though I’m like five feet away, and prance around the work area like a special unicorn. We were given one too many horror stories back in our college days {sculpture class.} And I have actually cut my hand, one too many times with my frenemy mr. exacto. Our professors were all, “one time, this guy sliced his hand clean open. So make sure you pay attention.” But I rambled for about twelve sentences to give credit where credit is due: thank you Jamin for your mad cutting skills.
I threw a layer of wedgewood grey on top…and another layer of stain to tie it in with our already painted island.
I think you know where I’m going with this, but I cut each one to size, to fit on the different parts of our island. {And by I, I mean Jamin.}
I numbered each one with it’s matching spot on the island, since they were all different lengths, at this point. It would be JUST LIKE MOI to forget where they go, then sit for a good part of the afternoon REFIGURING it out. I’m smooth like that.
Here’s where some of you may get a little, “oh no she didn’t” but my best friend came out to play again.
{this was in case I got it wrong, changed my mind, and or needed to hide unnecessary nail holes-you simply pop it back off!}
Glue and press. To each corner of our island. To give it a little extra umph and take it to the next level.
It’s subtle. And it’s not for everyone. But it kind of takes my original DULL brown island to a whole new level. For nine whole dollas, nonetheless.
From now on, if you people are gutting out your houses and have those horrible spindles still serving as room dividers, will you please send them my way? MMM kay thanks.
