Hey guys! The oh so talented Erin from Two Story Cottage is back with a simple but gorgeous Christmas project! Without further ado:
December is here and rather than curl up in the fetal position, I’m revving up for the month of full-blown crazy. I want to make memories but refrain from stress-induced meltdowns. Rather than cram the calendar, we are being purposeful about what activities we attend as a family. As much as I love a good cookie, I probably don’t need to attend three swaps this season. Death by shortbread is not the way to go.
Simplicity is a beautiful thing and when it works, embrace it. Last year, I made the world’s easiest mini wreaths for our breakfast area and got more compliments on them than projects I’ve spent days on. A three-step project barely needs a tutorial but I’ve provided one in hopes of decreasing your frantic factor this holiday season.
Where is that easy button when you need it?
This year, I decided to bring them to the dining room. I’ve long admired expensive boxwood wreaths on chairs and am thrilled to have the look for less.
Step One: Buy one package of garland per wreath, usually found in the floral or holiday section of your craft store. It is already in a round shape. Mine is by Ashland and it came from Michael’s for around $12 but use your 40 or 50% coupons to take that cost down!
Step Two: Grab a few twist ties from your junk drawer. You don’t have a junk drawer? We can’t be friends. In any case, a little floral wire will suffice. Keep the round shape of the garland and twist your tie to secure. Plump and arrange and twist those strands of garland until they look full, giving it more dimension. Keep picking away at it like the OCD person you know you are.
Step Three: Cut a generous length of velvet ribbon for hanging. Mine is also from Michael’s. No bows here – just use double-sided tape or masking tape to secure the ends one on top of the other. I safety pinned the ribbon to the chair at the seam of the slipcover so it wouldn’t show. For a non slip-covered surface, you can simply use the tape method.
Secret Step Four: Admire the handmade project that just took two minutes. And be prepared – if you host church dinner group at your house, at least three people will ask about the wreaths. Yeah, you made them. Duh.
Another idea? Spray paint them gold to add a little bit of an edge. Tempting, I’m telling ya.
Are you embracing the little things this season? Wishing you a beautiful holiday filled with simple pleasures!
