You know my biggest qualm with fairy tales? Is that the story is always over when the prince marries the young maiden he just met five whole seconds ago in the forrest. Like, it’s supposed to be our biggest life goal or something. And for starters, no one ever talks about what happened to Cinderella when the prince discovered there was a pest control problem a-la her woodland creature friends taking up residence in the palace. Or Snow White’s affinity for little men and their weird codependency relationship when it came to cleaning messy cottages. Or how Rapunzel decorated now that she was finally able to leave that tower. I mean, real, burning questions besides the impending marriage counseling that was soon to follow suit after they rode blissfully off into the sunset, barely knowing each other. We were brainwashed, yes?
Okay. Fine. The others are real burning questions, besides the decor part. Like how I worked that one in?
Once upon a time, when we first got married fresh out of college before I even knew who I was – wheeeeeeee! we had an apartment, and then a house, and we kind of wanted it to feel like a home. Sure, for the first few years we got by with hand-me-down sofas and wonky side tables. Those are our fondest of memories, and we cherish those forever. But after a while, we found ourselves wanting something a little different. A little more… ‘us’. And something beyond what my cousin’s sister’s aunt’s neighbor was doing. I found it all intimidating. Like, I was attending my first grown up shindig, with nothing for my house to wear.
Fabrics were a bit of an alien thing to me. I knew I loved them, but I had a hard time finding just the right ones for a space. And how to use them. We always struggled finding great one of a kind patterns that really rocked our home, and this is one of the main reasons we’ve found such a passion for creating these fabrics… really, our entire line in the studio. So an idea was born. We love the way they work so nicely together in a room. There are no rules. There are no real hinderances when it comes to doing what you want in your home, besides what you absolutely love. And when you do that, it shines through. We adore the fresh vibe these combos bring to any space without feeling too rigidly matched – it’s how all our line works together at The Handmade Home Studio that we’re just so darn excited about.
We’ve been up to a few new creations lately, and wanted to share a few of our combos here today. If you’ve perused our fabrics before, you’ll find many more fresh combos and new ideas in the fabric section of the studio. But here’s a few of our new faves!
