Running a business can be a multifaceted thing. And sometimes, we wear a lot of hats with what we do. That’s basically a nice way of saying that our family and friends who know us in real life {as opposed to fake life?} are often very confused over what the heck we’re up to at the moment. ;} We feel that as many years as we’ve been writing on our little corner of the www, we still have so much to bring to the table. Things that can enhance, and bring another element to what we love, as our business continues to grow.
We’ve found ourselves pulled to video as a different medium, time and time again in different ways for the past few years. Even though we fought it at first. We thought it was too much to take on, and maybe we look like total dorks on camera. As it turns out, it’s something we really enjoy from a creative front. And after a lot of deliberation, we’ve decided to just go for it. So today, we’re excited to announce that we’re bringing a new element to the site. We’re not even sure what to call it, so maybe just sit back, and enjoy our little video. Webisode? Preview? Stuff we may regret and take down later in a dumpster fire of regretful shame?
A glance at us, in real life. {Refresh if it’s not loading}
So, two things:
1. We want to know what you think. No really. This is for you.
This is a preview of more to come, and we want to hear what you think! What would you like to see more of? Any questions you’d love to see answered? Or topics you’d like to see covered? Let us know in the comments! We can’t wait to answer them.
2. Subscribe to our channel here!
While we’ll be featuring our videos here for a little while to help our little corner of youtube grow, said videos will eventually become their own kinda thing. That’s the vision, anyway. We’d love for you to keep up with us on youtube so you can follow along and we can continue to grow together.
Thanks so much, as always for stopping by. We adore y’all and hope you enjoy this little snippet, as much as we did making it.

This is amazing guys! I can’t wait to see more! Well done and bravo. Video adds an entirely new dimension and you guys are adorable.

I admit I was feeling dubious when I hit “play”, but it was so well done, you guys! Super cute. I have always appreciated how you keep it real, and I think the videos will be a nice addition to your points of contact with your audience. And I laughed imagining what kinds of stress-y stuff was running through your heads while you were filming. I am an introvert and I know when I am talking to new people, there’s a crazy personal critique running through my brain the whole time (“Stop with the constant gestures, Kelly! You’re like some kind of maniac conductor!” Etc…haha!). As far as content, the pieces I like best in general are when bloggers cover best decision/worst mistake sort of stuff, or when they revisit a project or solution from a past post and recap how it is or is not working for them anymore. It has kept me from starting many a cute project that just doesn’t function in real life. I just like watching your adventures, though, so whatever you cover will be fun. Best of luck!

Haha thanks for your honesty, Kelly! ;} We definitely plan to include a well rounded look at things – especially an honest approach to it all. There’s too much fake TV out there, and this is the beauty of doing it on our own. We truly hope you enjoy, and we really appreciate your comment – we will take note of all of this and make sure it’s included! We have more to come so please do stay tuned.

You said you wanted honesty so I wanted to be honest but I am not putting this here to be an internet jerk!
I don’t think I would watch them TBH. I find that I enjoy reading blogs but watching video’s seems to much of a commitment (?)
Courtney says
You guys are great on camera, but personally I hate watching videos! I mostly read blogs at work so I can’t play videos, and even then I’m too ADD/impatient to listen to a video. Anyway, my point is that if you move forward with this plan (yay!) maybe try to include some kind of copy summary with it?
ashley @ the handmade home says
We totally understand the whole video vs blog thing which is why we hadn’t pursued it until now.
We also understand videos just aren’t for some people. The idea is for the two to work hand in hand. We will still be writing here just as much as ever – it’s our number one passion. Even tutorial videos will be accompanied by a written post. Eventually, we won’t even share our videos here, which is why we asked for true subscribers so that those who are interested can find them on our youtube channel. Nothing here will change and I hope that helps.
Look at it as a nice little supplementary segment for anyone who is interested in the “other side”. We’re expanding because there are video people out there who just prefer videos. ;} Whichever we do, we hope we find readers and viewers who very much enjoy. ;} We will still work on both venues, and will not be abandoning this one by any means.
Thank you for stopping by and letting us know! ;}

loved it! Can’t wait to see more. Haven’t tuned in for a while. Absolutely love the direction you’re going in. Love that you’re doing them online because then I can check in whenever I want. No pvr or local listings required. Yay!!!! And if you’re ever itching to head north, way north, I’ve got a house in northern canada that has great bones but needs some personal touches.

Can’t wait!

I’m definitely looking forward to this from you guys! I know sometimes the step-by-step tutorials become much more clear to me when filmed “in real life”. That tricky way you made a cut or the what to look for on your paint finish when doing a project now becomes crystal clear in video. There are lots of opportunities for teaching us DIY-ers on the video route. So I would really love to see video tutorials.
You both are so talented, and I really think people will love this! I’ll be subscribing in eager anticipation. 🙂
ashley @ the handmade home says
Absolutely! We can’t wait to bring a little bit of everything. Especially plenty on the tutorial front. Thank you so much for your sweet support! :}

Looks interesting, but the background music made it hard to hear the audio. Good luck with your new project.
I’m watching this on kindle which might be the problem.
