We’re finally embracing fall.
Kind of.
I have to say, it was a rude awakening coming back from Orlando last week at 90+ degree temps, to the crisp rainy air of Nashville.
Seriously y’all we live in Seattle and no one told us before we moved that it would be this way. I complain about it every year, but we’re on year three, and people keep saying it’s “unusual”. We’re now officially calling them “liars”. But we’re embracing it… maybe.
You see, I’m a Spring/Summer gal and I’m still in denial, but it is nearly Halloween, which means it’s basically New Year’s. Is it just me or does it always go by in a blur? I’m buckling down and managing all the things while we do our best to avoid the craziness of the overbooked nature of the holidays. Just trying to slow it all down. Having kids with all the obligations can make it hard to breathe. We just want to be.
So, the point to all my rambling? This little project is a prime example of slowing down: diy scented wax sachets. An old school project with a bit of a modern twist.
These are for all times of year, but we must say, they make adorable little gifts or gift toppers, and are super easy and fun to make. They’re especially fun in the cooler weather.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Again, you can add anything you want as far as the scent/color department is concerned…
{Affilaite links below}
• Hex Wax molds
-We like these because the holes come pre-punched for easy stringing and the size is just right.
-These would be fun for soaps, too!
• Wax – for candle making
Other elements:
Again, the beauty of these is that you can customize them to whatever you want. Here’s what we used:
• Spicy Anise for fun texture – it holds a light earthy scent that reminds me of licorice
• Dried orange slices – I think these are what make them so pretty
• Cinnamon/dried cranberry mix
• Essential oils of your choice – {I didn’t like ours {in the photo above} and ended up switching it around with things I already had midway} – think of an apple cinnamon, cranberry + orange combo – perfect for fall! You could even throw in some lavender for a relaxing edge.
– I also included some twine for easy stringing, and you’ll want a protected work surface and a measuring cup + microwave for melting wax.
Place your wax in a container, and melt away {follow their specific directions, but I merely heated ours in the microwave}
When you get ready to pour, be sure not to touch the container with your hands. Especially if your little ones are helping… this is really a project for older kiddos. Our measuring cup was glass, so an oven mitt was essential.
Gathering the molds and all our supplies, I poured wax into the containers first. This was so I could be more intentional about what went where since these molds are shallow and it’s important that they all fit right with the larger orange slices.
When they were dry, I popped them out and they were ready to go.
These are seriously so easy, it really didn’t need a tutorial. ;}
Tada! You could even pass these out for Halloween…
JK the kids would hate you.
But they make thoughtful little gifts on their own, or bright accents to add to just about anything.
Oh so pretty!
So much fun!
As always, let us know if you try it.
We’d love to hear how it goes, and if you enjoyed creating.
Also, what are some of your fave scent combos?
We’re loving making these simple creations and want to hear from you!
Have an inspired day!

What a fantastic idea! I think I know what my teacher and therapist gifts will be this year! I have to make about a dozen due to special needs interventions, so the are ideal! Thank you
