Stories always have a beginning.
People always ask how we began doing what we do, and we’ve talked about how The handmade Home came to be in a few of our posts and videos. But when I (Jamin) really think about my own first renovation project, I take it all the way back to my junior year at Auburn.
It was the first time I had a bathroom to myself, and it had a crusty old showerhead. As most college situations go, it had been used by countless people before me. {Gross, right? Cheers to past college living situations.} I thought I’d take advantage of the situation and replace it with a handheld showerhead, just for me. Mainly because, as Ashley will tell you, I’m a bit of a shower addict. If there’s a club for taking too many showers, I’d be the President, but I digress.
The real problem for my 21-year-old self wasn’t that Ashley hadn’t come into my life yet {#browniepoints}. But I didn’t own any tools, nor had I ever attempted a home renovation project. And to make matters worse, the internet hadn’t brought its a-game yet with blogs and youtube to teach us everything. But I was confident and thought I’d give it a go.
It was easier than I’d imagined.
So when our friends at hansgrohe {a great source for amazing showerheads} asked us to share about how to install a showerhead we thought it would be a great basic project to share. Especially when we installed one for a client this past week, because it’s a perfect way to begin.
You really only need a few simple tools and an amazing new showerhead like the hansgrohePowderRain.
What you’ll need:
• channel lock pliers
• teflon tape
• rag
Start by simply removing the old showerhead by twisting it counter clockwise. Be careful, because you’ll probably have some water spill out once you take it off. Make sure you hold the pipe sticking out of the wall with one hand, to prevent it from twisting inside the wall.
Once it’s off, remove any old teflon tape and clean up the threads. {If you’re not familiar with pipe parts, threads are basically the grooves on the pipe.}
With the threads clean, you’ll simply want to apply some new teflon tape by wrapping it clockwise around the threads.
Wrap it a couple of times around, and then press it down into the threads.
Next, simply hand tighten the new showerhead connection to the pipe sticking out from the wall. But like above, make sure you’re holding the pipe with one hand.
After it’s hand-tightened, use the channel lock pliers to tighten it a little more.
Hold the pipe from the wall, and make sure not to over tighten.
Next, simply continue hooking up the rest of the showerhead components according to the product manual.
Test it for leaks, and you’re done.
No really… it’s that simple. It really is a great way to instantly upgrade your shower experience.
If you try out thehansgrohe PowderRain showerhead, you’ll love it.
Their latest innovative technology aims to enhance your showers to a spa-like quality. The goal is instant relaxation, and PowderRain consists of microfine droplets of water that “cocoon” around the body to create a sensuous, “full rain” shower experience to revitalize the skin. Millions of water droplets to use as a little therapy for the win!
Not only is it simple to install, but it offers multiple settings to enhance that pampered feeling.
And let’s be honest, the shower might be the one place you can escape the world and simply relax. Hansgrohe PowderRain is that spa feeling every day, without having to leave your home.
Hansgrohe even considered the “splash effect”. You know that annoying thing that happens when water hits your chest and splashes into your face. They’ve engineered the PowderRain to combat this problem, which keeps those microdroplets quieter and allows a more relaxing shower experience.
We think this is oh so brilliant since we didn’t even know it was a problem that could be fixed.
Did you know the microdroplet technology, also helps rinse out all that shampoo?
A time saving and therapeutic shower – Yes, please.
So yes, I’m the self-confessed shower lover here encouraging you to “treat yo self” and tackle that simple project now that you’ve learned how to install a showerhead.
We had two happy clients the other afternoon when we were able to place this one in their shower, to give it an amazing new upgrade.
