Last week I was on the search for a cheapo fake-o wooden crate to go in the space above our fridge. I decided to keep it affordable rather than going for authentic vintage, and headed to the great Hobby Lobby. But instead of a wooden crate, I found this puppy on clearance.
And I knew exactly what I was going to do with it…
I had this old frame sitting around the house. It was a cheapy little piece, so I took it apart, and busted out the wood filler…
I sanded it down, because its seriously cheapo, and had all these little grooves in the back. So if you want to skip this step, you probably can, by examining the frame you choose. I thought the white frame was more suitable for its purpose, and I was going for free.
The more layers of chalkboard paint I added, the more it evened out. I love a nice thick chalkboard layer, and the way it feels when you write on it. Don’t you?
Once dry, I did a little labeling… and left off the glass…
and a little anchoring to the basket with the back of the frame…for a little hotglue action…
and I now have the perfect lil space for fresh produce above our fridge. What I was really going for : {bonus} it fills the annoying gap between our upper cabinets and the fridge with something pleasantly visual 😉 Hurray for fresh produce and the cute (if I do say so myself) containers they come in.
What’s something you’ve revamped lately? Leave me a link! I’d love to see.
If you try this, as always, let me know!

What a nice look! Agreed. Clever. Do you think they're still on clearance at HL? And in other locations?
