If you’ve been following along, then you know that we’ve been a long time coming with our addition. We shared the framing, and the butlers pantry walkthrough + laundry design plans + the bedroom design, with sources, here. Because this is the fun part.
But first, little necessary backtracking JIC you have NO idea what we’re rambling about:
• We were thrilled to announce our primary owner’s suite addition this summer + a history of our house. It’s been a really long process for us, one we weren’t sure would happen. So we’re adding on and expanding in an awesome way for our family.
• Here, we shared our plans, and little of what we’ll be taking on in our front yard, to solve our mullet prob, as well – coming this spring.
• And the beginning of it all, here.
What’s going on now: It’s been a minute, so let me catch you up. Because snow and covid and all the holidaiscal apocalypse of things, everything sat for a bit. We had HVAC and plumbing and electrical completed and the crawlspace sealed before Christmas. We even had an entirely new roof put on the whole house, so it all seamlessly ties in. We discovered a leak in the meantime so that was fun. OH THE JOY OF OLD HOUSES, said no one ever. {Or, everyone in unison who owns one.} We even had new windows installed the week before Christmas, and new gutters too. Wheeee! Prograsss.
We passed our framing inspection, and it was on to the next step.
Things finally started moving again, and we couldn’t be happier. For starters, the brick. It’s all mismatched because we were able to buy batches at discount, since it will be painted anyway. We gotta catch a break somewhere, amirite? This ENTIRE time, the house has been sitting in this ridiculous ditch for the foundation. Because we were waiting on product before that could happen because covid. {That’s the simplified version.} That meant every time it rained, we had to monitor and pump out the rain, so that it didn’t flood the crawlspace. We even kept an eye on it from Jamaica with cameras, so that we could activate the pump with our Kasa via Ring in case it rained. FUN TIMES.
This photo kinda sums up where we are, with the hot mess express. No lie. Between this and the giant dirt mount in our front yard, the neighbors are officially side eyeing us.
Right now, our house honestly looks like a midcentury church in the country. But again, no worries, we’ll definitely be painting that brick. The brick guys were genuinely concerned for us. Jamin may or may not have kept a straight face and said “NO, why?” when they asked if we would be painting.
A quick photo we snapped yesterday afternoon – this little alcove is going to feel so nice around the pool. Yes, said pool is dirty.
Here’s another glorious view of those windows. And you may notice something else…
INSULATION!
Here’s a view of the entry we’re using to get in and out right now, to work on the outside. This is the left window off our fireplace in the pool room. I’m officially to that point where our house feels like a redneck Narnia, and I wonder if it’s all gonna be okay. Let that sit for a second because I do this for a living.
The windows will be patched up and removed, if you’re wondering. If that doesn’t make sense, take another glance at the plans above. Yes it’s confusing. It’s going to look intentional in this room, as well. #Ihaveaplan
Let’s just say everyone involved in our house has given up on life, and the upstairs portion of our house is MASS chaos. It’s like everyone knows they’ll be playing musical bedrooms soon {the younger two will be splitting up and the oldest his closet back, so there are CLOTHES EVERYWHERE.} It’s complicated. I’m tired. Is it March yet?
And here are a few photos of the drywall I snapped this morning because it’s JUST finished.
Here’s a view of the bath from the bedroom. {Hallway in between with closets + toilet area}
A peek at my closet. But it really is a redneck Narnia. Doggos are confused.
Our fireplace from the bed view – with our TV because I have no qualms with TVs in the bedroom and I’m thrilled about it.
And a view of the other side.
A peek at our laundry room and butler’s pantry – we covered the entry to the {very nice and encapsulated crawlspace here, which we’ll be sharing more on later} so no one would fall in.
And back to the bathroom again. I’ll lay it out clearer in the next week or so… I just snapped a few quick ones this am.
BUT to my point {because the last time I shared anything was December 9th and now it’s February 2nd} Today, I’m talking all things bathroom design!
If you look at the floor plan above, you can see it holds a zero entry shower, two vanities {we really won’t know what to do with ourselves after living in a tiny bathroom situation {SHARED WITH OUR DAUGHTER AFTER SHE HAPPILY MOVE IN A FEW YEARS AGO and WE CAN’T SEEM TO GET RID OF HER} and this awesome window situation. In the meantime, I’ve been busy picking out all the goodies.
• Colors:
Again with Sherwin William’s Egret White for the walls. We’ll be trimming it out with pure white. Check them out on our walls here.
The ceilings will be planked/shiplapped again finishing it off with SW Rainwashed. But it’s all in the details.
Mindful Gray will be the vanity color, which I’ve been busy designing for the bath.
• Tile – of course we’re smitten by this tile from Jeffrey Court – We love the third offset brick pattern for the shower and walls, along with the floor tile in a herringbone shape for the floors. The white tile will come to the height shown in the diagram below that I included for placement purposes, and wrap around the wall to the other side, where the window sits.
• Wallpaper – I’m pairing it with a little of this bold and beautiful wallpaper that I’m absolutely smitten with. In the photo above, it will go on each side of the window, and around the window as well, contrasted with the white tile for an awesome look. Get a look at its production here because SWOON.
• Lights – Kichler for the win! This backlit bathroom mirror {it’s the most flattering!} paired with these two sconces + this chandelier. I can’t wait to show you guys the final look.
• Fixtures – Delta for the win! We love these for the shower, combined with a rain head in the center {did we mention it’s zero entry? Could I BE anymore excited?}. Paired with these faucets for the sink.
• Countertops – Because we’re going custom with our cabinetry this time, we’re able to use more durable countertops. Thrilled to be installing shadow storm quartzite for something both durable and natural. I have this thing for natural stone.
• Vent Covers – throughout, matching the rest of our home – we’re HUGE fans of Vent Covers Unlimited.
• Hardware – I love something like this from D.Lawless Hardware for a simple brass element.
• Accessories: Rug / basket / striped towel / blue towel / hook – But I’ll be sharing more of the fun stuff, later.
Here are the examples for placements!
I think it’s finally snowballing at this point, but with product delays, our job as well as our personal lives have just been a BLAST these past few years. So we’re excited, if you can’t tell.
And that, our friends, wraps it up right now for our bathroom inspiration!
We plan to share more as we go, so stay tuned! THIS is the fun part. I don’t think we’ll know what to do with ourselves when we can finally move in…
Have an inspired day!
