If you’re anything like us, you may have been duking it out in the picky eater department around your home. We feel like they’ve branched out a little, but with one child in particular it’s been this way since they were born.
I’m the main cook around here, remember, control freak because we’re all about breaking down stereotypes, one meal at a time.
Some days at our house, I’ll ask the kids what they want for dinner. The answers are always the same. Aiden: Whatever. Malone: Chicken, banana, sandwich, Hot dog, lasagna, chicken casserole, green beans, strawberries, apples and the list will go on until you stop him. One could literally put food in front of this child all day at the table, and he would never move. Content forever.
Then there is Emerson, and her answer is always the same: Pizza. Pizza. Pizza. I blame it on watching Aiden play to much Mario Brothers as an infant. Or maybe it’s all her mother ate when she was expecting. Shhhh don’t tell.
Who knows?
Of course we aren’t fans of frozen pizza. And not to be a cheapskate, but what’s up with tipping the delivery guy on top of a delivery fee? I don’t mind when it comes within the expected time frame, but when it takes over an hour… whatever happened to 30 minutes or less? Those were the days.
So we were super excited when we fired up our new Stok grill recently and discovered it came with a pizza cooking stone.
Jump up and down, clap our hands excited. It’s the little things.
We couldn’t wait to make a pizza on it, and today we want to share a super easy, better solution than frozen pizza or the delivery guy. And a great way to sneak in some of those fresh ingredients with picky eaters. No, it’s not straight up veggies but sometimes it helps to mix it up a little.
(I may or may not have tried to convince Ashley to let me put a brick on the grill with the pizza and call it a brick oven pizza.)
Today we are here with what we call our simple artisan grilled pizza. We call it an artisan pizza because it sounds a. important/expert-like, and b. yummy.
We started with some fresh pizza dough from our local bakery. I’m sure there’s plenty of recipes out there for homemade, but your local grocery probably carries it in their bakery section. Time saver.
If you’ve never tried to toss pizza dough before, I promise it is harder than it looks, but really a lot of fun too. Hashtag itlandedonthedog.
Once we had the dough situated (fresh batch, sans dog hair) we added our marinara sauce and then called in the little pizza loving helper to decorate her pizza.
For the Artisan pizza we added the following ingredients:
• Mozzerella Cheese • banana peppers • pepperoni • black olives • pineapple • tomatoes • green bell peppers • Feta cheese • fresh parmesan
Meanwhile, the Chloe stalked us. Waiting for her moment.
We simply fired up the Stok grill, let it heat up to 375 and let the cooking extravaganza begin.
They cook pretty fast on a grill, and ours were on for less than twenty minutes, so be sure to keep an eye on them… beat that, delivery guy!
It really is that simple to produce a delicious, fresh pizza.
I asked ashley for a delivery tip, and she told me next time, to add more pineapple.
Not really the tip I was hoping for.
We even got the little helper to do the dishes. You have to work around here to eat.
Just kidding. She volunteered, but we suspect it was a pretty good attempt to get out of doing her math.
It worked.
Do you guys grill your pizzas? What are your favorite ingredients? We’d love to hear!
Have an inspired day!
