It’s finally time. After paying our dues with septic tanks, electrical wiring and all things inspectors and code, we’re diving into what makes a house a home. We’re thinking about the finer details.
We’ve been looking at all the materials we’ve chosen, and it’s an entirely new dimension: Considering all things visual balance and vibes: How do they relate? How will they flow? What will the house evoke when you walk into a room?
We’ve studied the swatch books, tried out the samples, and stared at them in different walls, and light with the time of day.
We’ve held them up to flooring, tile, cabinets, and our own childrens’ faces. JK. Not really.
Maybe. I feel like at this point, we’ve done everything but.
If one wall didn’t look right, we painted another patch of samples, somewhere else. We want it – any colors we choose in the given applications – to feel just right.
We currently eat, breathe and sleep all things design elements and color. And depending on who you are of our friend and family variety, we’re either quite fascinating or completely need to reel it in at this point. There probably is no in between.
But it’s definitely to the fun part, y’all. Time to move forward and make the final calls on all the things I love the most. {Jamin might disagree because he thoroughly enjoys tearing out/demoing all the things. But… I say this is where it gets really fun.}
Choosing colors for your home can be intimidating. One room, let alone an entire color scheme is something that can really throw people for a loop, especially when considering the relationships of everything. The flow of it all.
It’s overwhelming. On average, it takes a staggering 103 days from the time consumers decide they’d like to paint their home, to completion of the project.
We’re thrilled to talk about some of our paint colors we’re choosing today, along with a great line we’re pretty excited about. We’ve tried out a lot of paints over the years, and we’ve never seen anything quite like it. HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams marries the design expertise of HGTV with the legendary quality of Sherwin-Williams and the convenience of Lowe’s. It’s an all in one fabulous collection, and it’s available at Lowe’s. For the first time in over 40 years, Sherwin-Williams’ paints are being sold outside of the brick-and-mortar locations. They can bring Lowe’s shoppers high quality products from a brand they can trust.
How does it work? HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams made things a little simpler by creating 16 designer-inspired Color Collections, each with 20 paint colors carefully selected to work together in any combo.
By working together in this way, each Color Collection (like the Perfectly Polished Color Collection above) helps to create room-to-room harmony and encourages homeowners to paint more boldly, and feel good about their decisions. It gives color confidence throughout their paint experience and most importantly with names they can trust. No more freezing up when it’s time to just go with it.
You know that moment when you’ve selected your color and you’re ready to have your paint mixed? They ask you which kind you’d like… and there’s some great options based on the project you’re tackling at hand.
HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams has a range of products to meet everyone’s project needs:
- INFINITY Paint– Has a complete, one-coat, paint and primer with exceptional hiding power and coverage. It also offers extreme durability and a beautiful, designer-finished appearance.
- Showcase– Has ResiStain™ Technology that uses powerful cross linking polymers to form a tough barrier to resist stains. Its UniformFlow™ formula provides effortless application and an outstanding finish; and with the Precision Color Promise™, Showcase ensures there’s exceptional color matching with fade-resistant technology.
- Ovation– Has ScrubSure™ Technology that stands up to repeated scrubbing and washing. Its Smooth Glide™ Formula provides great coverage with minimal brush or roller marks.
I love knowing that we’re choosing a great product to last for years to come – with three kids and two dogs… and with all the projects we take on its good to know we’re in good hands with whatever choice we make from their line. So without further ado, here’s a few of our colors we’ve chosen for different areas of our home.
For our main colors throughout, we wanted a softer background to build on, that flows easily throughout the home. We hope to have a nice backdrop for the color we bring in, for a nice, clean classic vibe. And most importantly, it flows. And to show you the awesomeness of the collections we wanted to stay within one collection. Here’s what we chose (from the HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams Perfectly Polished Color Collection available at Lowe’s stores nationwide.):
- PURE WHITE {HGSW4006}: trim, some ceilings, most doors, and our main cabinets. You’ll see SAND DOLLAR {HGSW3117} on our kitchen island.
- NEBULOUS WHITE {HGSW4057}: offers a nice soft contrast to show off a crisp white on the trim, with a soft, light grey on many of the walls.
- SWIMMING{HGSW1327}: We adore this beautiful blue, and if you’ve been reading for a while, you knew we had to have some of it in our home. It gives a soft historical feel, and we want to use it on many of our beadboard ceilings on the upper level.
- DIVERSE BEIGE { HGSW3086}: A few of our doors for a nice deeper grey, and accent colors throughout the home.
We hope to have a nice backdrop for the polished color we bring in, for a nice, clean classic vibe. Have you guys tried their Color Collection yet? What are some of your favorite tried-and-true colors from their line? We’d love to hear.
So here we go… the drywall is being installed, and it’s time to roll our sleeves up and get started.
Have an inspired day!

I absolutely love looking at all the pretty colors on the fan decks, I could look for hours the problem is I could look for hours and never make a choice. I never feel confident in my color choices and if they work together. This collection thing is a cool idea, it’s like getting a second opinion without having to get one. Haha. oh and I can’t wait to see what you do with your choices. I’ve always loved your color selections. If you’re ever in Kentucky and get bored…

We have Diverse Beige in many rooms of our home. It’s the absolute best “griege” in my opinion. Love it!
