We’re here to share a really fun sneak peek today: A dining area refresh!
I was going to wait for a ‘grand reveal’, but while we’re getting some new renovations with sweet clients off the ground, I thought… why not share a little preview of sorts? Because our home has always been more of an in-progress take, anyway. If you’re not familiar with our home, we purchased this fixer upper in 2016. It then underwent several phases of spaces, but this room was our first hodgepodge of gathered furniture, while we renovated additional levels. Then we moved into our primary suite this past summer and as soon as that was finished, moved back out to take on a leak that had occurred last winter and ruined our existing floors. It was kinda tiresome but well worth it in the end, because we had a happy ending with matching hardwoods throughout. Champagne probs, but I’ll take it.
Our home has come such a long way from the very beginning. Right now, we’re in the middle of doing this entire space. I gave a little update on plans for this room a few weeks ago, {and the state of the entire house} and now that our table and rug are here- why not share a little more on what’s going on?
Here’s what our home looked like from this angle the day we found it.
And here we are today!
This great room, {I’ll be sharing the entire reveal, in the future} was formerly a tiny foyer, formal living/dining area, galley kitchen with a small eat-in area, and the living room. We knocked it all down, and took the ceilings out, too. It’s been through several owners since 1976 before we got our hands on it and took it down to the bones, but I would love to have seen how each owner decorated and used each space.
This dining table is so unexpectedly gorgeous, I wasn’t sure what to do with myself when it arrived. So I just stared at it for a while. The photos online don’t do it justice. It was heavy to set up, but it’s so sturdy and nice.
This is a tale of three tables, a story for which I will share some other time. Just know the first one from West Elm wobbled, so much so that Jamin refused to keep it. {That’s saying a lot since he usually concurs with my choices.} The second one from PB was the wrong color and this one was just right. Call me goldilocks. I should have started my search with Overstock.
The veining is just GLORIOUS. You have to be prepared to take care of a marble table, it’s a whole different beast. But we do love this one – it’s like artwork for the dining area with a modern touch.
The chairs, pair perfectly with it. The caning and cushions make it extra comfy!
Our very first table we’d used here was a round table, and just not a good fit for the space. Everything feels larger now, that we have furniture at the right size.
The lighting in here has been a bit of an issue since we kept adding on to the house. This space was feeling quite dark, but new floors have already made a huge difference.
This kichler light definitely takes it up a notch. We also added another chandelier to the other side so now all the pieces are more cohesive for one big open space. I love the traditional-modern feel of it all. Also this space is bright at night and we love it.
And we added this plush rug which is plenty big for the table and chairs to slide in and out easily. It’s a part of Karastan’s new collection with Stacy Garcia. The colors are glorious.
I love tying all the colors together with it, {it hides spills well, too! hello, three kids + two dogs…though the spills don’t last long because dogs.} We posted an entire video about it here today so be sure to check out all the details {and a fun giveaway!} on our instagram feed here.
All the fun details! Our piano is now by the main door, which we honestly don’t use that much. {The door, not the piano. JK we don’t really use it either -my good intentions of kiddos taking piano lessons have slowly died with my dreams. But I still love it for parties.} So it’s the perfect fit there. The new art is an original abstract by me and we’re having a sale now! Be sure to check it out here.
Everything feels so fresh and fun.
Here’s a sneak peek of this side of the room. This cabinet was not originally supposed to go here, but it ended up being a happy accident with a long story. We’re still in the process of adding trim and more… so stay tuned. But we do love that soft blue and what it does for making our kitchen feel larger with more storage space.
Here’s another glimpse here! This angle is so pretty.
Everything just feels so fresh and new. We were a little overdue for some brighter takes in this room. And no, that stained glass never gets old. {By the way, I’m thinking about adding a transom over the staircase to help balance the air flow a little more… in a pretty way. May as well make it stained glass? The whole fam wants me to calm down. NE.VER.}
So we hope you like this little preview of our fresh new take. We are adoring the way all these spaces for our own home, are turning out.
What’s your favorite element? We’d love to hear.
Have an inspired day!

Thank you so much! They’re actually really comfy too. We’re not always in a rush to get up from the table anymore when we’re hosting and having good around-the-table convos!
