psssst…. shop our spaces here!
So you may remember around August-ish that that we mentioned a partial install with some awesome clients. {Said clients happen to be dear friends, so this was a bit of a special project for us – more details coming in a fun episode of the handmade home series!}
In the meantime, we shared a sneak peek of some of their amazing accessories and a bit of a preview of what was to come. We had to wait around a bit on a few various elements, but we were more than thrilled to be able to head back to Knoxville. While we have a lot more coming in their entire lower level home overhaul, we are thrilled to show you this reveal today: A dining room makeover!
This is a bit of a before, when they found their house on the market. As you can see, it has great bones, amazing square footage, and a beautiful, open vibe. It just needed a little TLC in various spaces and a lot of style.
And here’s what happened when we were able to get our hands on it!
This is a song from Mark and Jillina’s wedding, that obviously has sentimental meaning, but she grew up with her grandfather singing it to her and her family, as well.
We created this for them and loved surprising her with it.
When we were discussing design options and I first laid eyes on the space {via face time}, I told them they needed wallpaper in the space. If you could have seen their faces in reaction… it was priceless and I laughed out loud. They told me later, they’re so glad they trusted my suggestion because this more than made their space. We love that this is toward the entry of the house because it sets the stage with a major statement.
We just knew a round table would be glorious in this space, and we were thrilled when they were on board. It’s a wonderful place for them to gather with entertainment and family game night.
We loved accenting it all with beautiful paintings in bright, fearless colors.
While the table and chairs were a new pieces, we paired them with Jillina’s grandmother’s furniture. It was handed down and made over once upon a time in the black paint department circa 2000, but we gave them a new lease on life with some great new colors.
I love that Jillina was fearless and agreed to change it over because the colors are stunning in this space. The pieces are perfect for displaying keepsakes and gorgeous china that play nicely with all the color.
The chandelier is from Kichler, as a part of the Birkdale Collection. It was like icing on the cake for all of us.
We love how lights can make such a huge change in the home. The former one was pretty dated, so this brought in a beautiful, unexpected touch.
Here, in her grandmother’s old china cabinet, Jillina houses her china and beautiful pieces handed down through their family. We love that she has such a pretty piece to showcase it all!
The touch of grey was just perfect with the blue backing to tie it all together and really highlight those white pieces. We’ve been reviving furniture like this for years, and there’s just something so classic about it that we absolutely adore. I guess you could say it’s one of our go-to tricks.
Reproductions of our What a Wonderful World paintings are actually available for sale in our studio, available as a set each piece measuring 34″ x 34″ {as seen here}.
Be sure to check them out! We love how it added so much to their entryway!
I don’t know about you guys, but we could sit for hours in this space. It says pull up a chair and take a deep breath.
And stay a while.
We love this view, too, from their study that looks right into the rest of the colorful preview of the house.
We jumped right into this from our Window World shoot {coming up this week with a full reveal of the outside of our own house} which was an absolute blast… but I have quite the updating to do around here with all the photography and updates!
We can’t wait to continue to show you guys room by room what we were able to do with their house!
They were a dream to work with and we loved transforming it all into a home that they love.
“I can’t believe I get to live here!” – Jillina
Obviously our favorite quote, and we know we’ve done our job well, with happy clients.
So stay tuned – we can’t wait to share more with you guys.
We hope you’ve enjoyed this tour today! I think I suddenly want a dining room again…
Have an inspired day!

Thank you so much for this post! We bought a house a little over a year ago with a similar dining room. This room has now become “where my furniture goes to die”. I’ve been trying to figure out what to do to update it and use this space again. Thank you so much for getting my gears turning!

Could you tell me where the dining chairs are from? They’re perfect!
ashley @ the handmade home says
Hey! Aren’t they fabulous? I’m afraid they were discontinued but you may be able to find some if you search? The brand is Four Hands – they’re to the trade but stores carry them – sometimes under their own name. {I.E. West Elm.} I hope that helps. ;}
