This is one of our all time fave fall projects, and we’re teaming up with some fun people on instagram today to share the how for these to in stories! This is a project I shared years ago, just revamped for a fun little twist on fall. DIY rainbow fairytale pumpkins!
These are just so colorful and fun, they’re a little bit more varied than our original batch. I seem to gradually add to them each year, and pull them out in the fall. They never get old! {Or go bad when you forget about them on the table and rot out from underneath…}
You know we’re no stranger to color, so we just love this fresh fun take.
Wanna make some? Here’s what you’ll need:
• white pumpkins – this little set is super affordable and come alrady “primed”
– you can always get plain old orange, but those will include an extra step.
• paint + brushes of any kind – a nice varied size is aways good
• inka gold gloss paint – we purchased platinum and gold for that shimmery, sheer finish
{This is so simple, it’s kind of funny to share, but I’m hoping it inspires you to create something fun!}
Step one: paint each section of the pumpkin a different color.
Note: You can also go for unified colors – see our original post above for more neutral finishes.
Don’t worry about getting it perfect, because the final coat of shimmery paint will compensate any gaps you leave. You may need two coats of each color. Feel free to blend with your fingers.
Here we went for simple stripes, but then wiped the paint off in between each one, for a fun look.
Each varied finish gives each pumpkin a unique feel!
Step two: When the paint is dry, simply open up your Inka and buff out each pumpkin.
It’s wipe on, wipe off Mr. Miyagi style.
We used both champagne and platinum colors, so one finish has a cooler hue, while another has a golden one.
Here you can see both pumpkins, with and without the platinum and champagne finish on both sides.
The good thing about that top coat, is that it dries pretty quickly – within about five minutes.
Then you’re finito and ready to style!
These little buddies literally go just about anywhere. We love the great finished look they give with bright pops of color around the house. So much fun! Our Covid Cabana needed a touch of fall, but since it’s so tropical we kept it bright and happy.
As always let us know if you try them, and check out our stories here.
Have an inspired day!
