Hello lovelies
In honor of all things carefree and fun, I thought this little gem would be a blast to discuss today. E.T. One of my all time fave 80’s movies.
In one of our bouts with strep about a month ago, I decided to let my sick kiddos watch the classic {with my mad editing skills-the things they put in those movies… right?!} flick. But it was a trip down memory lane and the ultimate 80’s remix. While Spielburg created the ultimate scenario of a home with a distracted mom (get your crap together, Mary… there’s an alien living in your house for like, a week, and I’m pretty sure you were on something in that cat costume} and a catastrophically messy house (that house stressed me out even as a child, but I’m not judging so much now) I thought it would be fun to bring a little nostalgia for the 80’s kids in all of us. Also, run on sentences are my forte.
1. Yep. It’s a hoodie for your Ipad. Nope. They didn’t have Ipads back then. But they wore hoodies. Thus the nod to 80’s awesomeness.
2. These handmade solar systems make me happy. For the space geek within.
3.+ 10. I wanted a bunk bed because of this movie. And I have to say, the walk through closet with the awesome shutters where ET hid with Raggedy Ann and Andy was kind of my favorite part. I was so jellies of that closet. I still have my giant (borderline creepy) R+A. Some things, you never part with.
4. Confess. Whenever you hop on an awesome bike with a basket, you think of that epic scene. And one year, I’m going to rebel against all things halloween and stick the entire fam in sheets with holes. Because that would also be epic.
5. Beakers for flowers around the house would be oh so fun. Because I am not scientific but I like to decorate. And because we all cheered when he freed the frogs.
6. Minimalistic ET posters rock.
7. Every home should have at least ten of these dinosaur grabbers.
8. If Gertie wore a necklace in her adult years, it would look like this.
9. Speak and Spells + Walkie Talkies. It wouldn’t be E.T. inspiration without them.
11. This phone. To order my papa oom mow mow pizza.
12. I think I’ll go for a jog in these.
So there ya go. A little E.T. (slightly modern because we’re not quite ready for the outright return of it all) style for all of you nostalgia lovers today.
Have an inspired day, friends!
P.S. I hope you’re gearing up for our sale! Be sure to read more about it, here!

I can proudly say that Sophie’s first “Big-Girl Ride” was the E.T. ride at Disney World and she did awesome! I’m pretty sure she though E.T was suuuper creepy though. (As did I…like mother, like daughter and all that). I haven’t exposed her to the movie yet. Being 2 I think she might be slightly young for it. If it were up to Ray, he would’ve already shown her like Alien and Apollo 13 and all kinds of crap.

HA! Malone didn’t watch. Emerson fell asleep and Aiden was mesmerized. I was terrified they would say another bad word. Even if my kids don’t know its a bad word… embarrassing much? Do they have an ET ride at DW? I thought that was Universal? I want to take the kids to Universal. Alien! hahahaha
Hayley says
Boooo. You’re probably right. But that’s what I get for living in Florida for a while and being surrounded by a gazillion theme parks. They all run together after a while. Oh yeah, Ray would show her anything Sci-Fi if I let him. His viewing choice when it’s just he and Sophie? How It’s Made. Sophie basically dances to the theme music then checks out. It’s ridiculous.

So I like your board and I love the 80’s, but I am not I repeat not a fan of ET. I had a dream when I was little that he was coming out of the incubator doohickey and I was cheering him on and then his eyes turned red and I started screaming. This shouldn’t seem odd coming from another chainsaw massacre fraidy cat. I am always the only person scared on the ET ride of the supposed good guys. Shudder.

NOT odd at all. The toys are particularly creepy. I needed a good laugh this morning. Amazing. ;}

Love the E.T. style! I have always thought Elliot’s room looked “curated” and had a warm feeling to it even though it was a mess with a ton of stuff.
ashley @ the handmade home says
Haha yes it did! 🙂

E.T! Love that movie. I did not know until recently that the epic bike-flying-getaway scene was edited so that the guys manning the roadblock were not carrying rifles.
Spielberg thought it would be better to replace the rifles with walkie-talkies after the
movie was released. But there was such an uproar over the change that ten years later he put the guns back in the hands of the feds. Something like that. I’ve seen
the movie so many times that I can’t remember what is shown these days.
thanks for the trip down memory lane!
