Something you should know about me: I absolutely love Valentine’s Day.
And not because of the reasons you may think. I’ve actually always found the whole roses are red thing kinda sappy. What I love about Valentine’s day is likened to fresh school supplies. Taking a big inhale down the aisle of Target or visiting Hello Kitty as a kid. I felt every bit of Nora Ephron’s words when she wrote:
“Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.”
I love Valentine’s Day in the same way you’d love a fresh pile of books, or the day in design school when we went to purchase all our new art supplies instead of text books because well, my major was amazing {to me, anyway}. Kind of like being a real live Harry Potter with my magic wand. Yes, I did just write that and total nerd digression. No, I’m not sorry.
It’s the idea that bright vivid colors, fun graphics and expressing oneself in whimsical ways… actually has a holiday. I guess it truly is appealing to the artist, and sentimentalist in me.
What I love more than anything, is doing some of this fun ‘cheesy’ stuff for our kids.
Because bright colors, fun little parties and a good old fashioned sugar overdose… never get old.
No matter how old you get.
We just love all the fun colors! So here’s a little bit of what went into the fun party, along with free printables, below!
Supplies:
• paper plates – We decided to up the ante with some fun paper plates! We combined small + large for fun layered awesomeness, with plates we already had. {I think the large are sold out but they have lots of fun options on their site!}
• Bottles – we keep reusing these for various parties, and they’re perfect.
• polkadot cups – These little cups for accessories
• paper straws – from here.
Garland:
• We love this heart garland here
• And this dipped garland, here.
• Table runner – here.
Sweet Treats:
• Lollipops – strawberry flavored from here – {Beware. They ship horribly but our kids still loved them.}
Pretezel Hearts:
Pretezels + white chocolate.
Melt + squeeze into the middle with a syringe. Top with a sprinkle.
Totally stolen from this image here.
Rice Krispy Treats:
Cut into heart shapes of two sizes.
Dipped in one section of white chocolate {just add food coloring + sprinkles.}
Tada! You have easy peasy Rice Krispy Treats.
Oh! And because I almost forgot… the drinks are strawberry milk.
Because pink.

We made these sweet little handmade envelopes to hold the love letters.
They’re simply stitched together to hold the paper inside… we plan to give these to them for actual valentines day with love letters inside.
Here’s how we made them:
If you’re measuring out to the little love letters we have above, print and cut out.
You’ll see borders on the outside. SAVE these borders.
Cut the felt to size, a little larger than the paper square. We made our envelopes by using multiple colors, so if you want to use more than one color, or are making more than one, this is a great way to save on time: fold in half and THEN cut. You already have two sides.
We mixed and matched from there.
Your top piece, will be the same size square, with a simple V cut in the middle. No worries, it doesn’t have to be exact.
Once you get your size right, if you’re making more than one, it helps to trace your template onto the next piece and cut all at once.
Your top piece will be a larger flap on top.
So your envelope is composed of these three simple shapes, and a heart on top.
Hint: You can trace a heart from one of our printables if that makes it easier to cut, or freehand and then cut from there.
We mixed and matched until we had all the color combos we liked.
Then while binging Netflix one night, I sewed them up with some basic stitching.
Hint: Remember to go around the border of your flap, but sew the top on as the final step. Not the edges.
Tada!
Sweet little handmade envelopes.
We loved this little impromptu Valentine’s party!
As always, let us know if you try any of it. We’d love to hear.
Have an inspired day!
