Hey sweet friends! Thanks for all the kind messages on Emerson’s room redo from earlier this week. She loves her space… and so far so good on sleeping in that bed! Today, I thought we’d cover as many sources as we could before we dive into those tutorials.
We’ll start with the simple wall colors first:
1: Benjamin Moore’s Tangerine Melt {in the closet and on the mirror- high gloss} 2: Benjamin Moore’s Cotton Candy – eggshell 3: Benjamin Moore’s Chantilly Lace {On the wall in matte & on the furniture in high gloss} + 4: Modern Masters Metallic Paint – Gold Rush for those gold metallic stars.
The stars were a part of a collaboration with the fabulous Royal Design Studio. I knew what I wanted, but couldn’t find a stencil for it…. and definitely didn’t want to DIY all those tiny points. So we put our heads together for something a little different and loved the outcome. We fondly refer to it as polkastars but it’s now known as their Starry Night Stencil. I have a few tips coming your way for this wall, because if I’m perfectly honest the paint I chose made it a little more difficult than it needed to be. (It’s a little less opaque than I was looking for, so it required a few passes) Stay tuned for that one, next week.
The hardware for my childhood dresser came from Hobby Lobby {I think they also have knobs like these at Anthro, but if you wait every other week they go on sale} + the brass pulls are from Van Dyke’s.
The gold frames were spray painted and redone… you can read all about that redo, here.
The frames are the Ribba Frames from Ikea, spray painted with Rustoleum’s Navy
You can get your hands on most of the printables, here + here
The mirror was an old score from Hobby Lobby when it was half off, originally that 90’s champagne metallic, then yellow… now orange and pink. ;}
That big E you spy was once a crackle finish, and we gave it a spritz with gold. We found it a very long time ago, at Rosenberry Rooms and I’m pretty sure they no longer carry that font. The dress form was a flea market find years ago, that I gave a spruce up as well as a tutu upgrade. You can read about Betty’s first transformation, here. The little green vase is from Anthropologie. Emerson loves it to hold all her stuff. She has a bit of an affinity for necklaces. ;}
We scored the rug for her space on a flash sale, but it was shipped from Rugs USA, and is made by NuLOOM as a part of their Heritage line. You can find it here.
I’m kind of super in love with her bedding because it happened by chance, the combination. Also, I made a large part of it with the curtains (tutorials coming soon) and didn’t die. ;}
She’s had this quilt from West Elm for years, and had it in her ‘old’ space. It was fun to put some zing into her room with all these colors. It’s a super wonderful staple piece that I will always hold on to… There’s just something about white and it’s simplicity that I adore.
The patterned pieces with the fun ruffles are from a local shop which carries pieces here from a vendor (see: super talented friend) called Love Letters.
I was eyeing the colors (it was actually a table cloth and hand towel set) when she suggested sewing the two hand towels together to make a big pillow… genius + sold. (She may even be open to shipping, so contact her here.)
I sewed the fabrics/curtains from a combo of some linen scraps (Kaufman Waterford) and (Michael Miller) Broadcloth for half off. The colors were perfect with what I’d already intended for the space. You can find them here: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.
That fun polkadot pillow was DIY and I will have a how-to on that next week. It was the crowning touch for her space and turned out better than I expected! A super fun project.
Pssst..I never purchase my fabrics without a. them being on sale or b. a coupon (retailmenot.com) and c. they’re usually always free shipping when you purchase a certain amount from fabric.com. Win.
The bamboo blinds are from overstock. I chose a lighter color to bring in another touch of that natural element you spy with her dollhouse roofing and grasscloth you see in her frame redos.
The aqua accents you spy in the space are Benjamin Moore’s At Sea. (paired here with Chantilly Lace. Maybe my all time favorite paint color for throughout my home is white. So what? ;))
We built our frame (seen here with the same aqua) but found our poster here. It’s actually a cheapo reprint, with a little distressing. (read: not that great of quality which I embraced for a softer, older look) On doing a little research, I didn’t find the older posters did not have that grey strip at the top, and found the strip a little distracting. So we cut it off, and built a frame for it. (Another tutorial, coming soon) Everyone assumes it’s vintage. So we will let them assume. ;}
We built the shelves in the closet, and I made this curtain. But I found all of these baskets at Michael’s on sale this winter, for half off. And the crates you see were hand built by us. Another tutorial coming your way. I redid an old college trunk and you can read all about it here.
The tags you see were handmade, here.
The chandy for us, was the crowning touch of the space. We ended up replacing her lighting from her baby nursery because it was so silver- based. (Don’t worry… it will be relocated somewhere else in our home.) We featured it last year in this inspiration board, and at the time, it was on sale at Pottery Barn Kids. I purchased it for an entirely different purpose, and when I brought it out for her to look at, the child literally swooned. She was all, “Oh yeah, mama! Do that one!” So up it went.
And there you have it! Most of her sources for her space. There will be some thorough tutorials for all of this coming soon, along with some fun giveaways from Royal Design Studio + RYOBI! Stay tuned.
Have an inspired day, and be sure to let me know about any questions you have here!

where did you get the sheets?, pillowcases and flat sheet?, did you make them?, LOVE
ashley @ the handmade home says
Hey Marybeth! Any of the bedding you see in the photo was made from broadcloth into a coverlet as listed above. ;} The sheets, you can’t really see in the photo but they’re a little set we purchased from Macy’s a few years ago. We alternate regularly between those, and her beloved Hello Kitty. {Ya can’t win them all} I hope that helps! ;}

I would love to see a tutorial on the bedspread. It’s beautiful. We will be moving in the next 12 or ,ess and my girls will share a room in our next house = such a fun project ahead of me. 🙂 would love to see how you did it in more detail. We have those same colors in their rooms and I think we will stay with a similar color scheme but with fresh fabrics. 🙂

Another please post a tutorial on the bedding plea. I’m hoping to make something similar and would love to see some rough measurements for a twin bed. Also, I’m not sure if you posted about this already, but what color are the sheets?
ashley @ the handmade home says
Hey Nikki! I’m getting to it as soon as we can in our line of tutorials. ;} I will post all of this, but I just used a twin sized quilt for my rough measurements, and then went a little longer so I could tuck it in on all the edges with the way the bed is designed. I hope that helps for now!
Erin says
I love the bed. Did you make it?
ashley @ the handmade home says
Hey Erin! Yes! The tutorial will be up Friday ;}

I have been SCOURING the internet for inspiration for my daughter’s room……for far longer than I would like to admit. This is BY FAR the most amazing girls room I have seen, so much inspiration its ridiculous!!! I cannot wait for the tutorials, especially the dollhouse, which is incredible. You did an amazing job! I actually want to do all of the DIY’s because they turned out so amazingly. Just had to say, amazing job, and thanks for the ideas….since I was completely stumped on what to do! Thank you for sharing!
