Did you know that Earth Day is just around the corner? We shared this one last year, and it was such a hit with families, we thought we should share it again. Happy 51st Earth Day, everyone!
In honor of earth day, Greenworks Tools is launching a new website – where you can see all their fun tutorials people share with their tools! From yard ideas to how to build a recycling center… Be sure to check it out here.
We’ve slowed down, whether we like it or not. We’re spending more time outside, soaking up the present. And we think that it couldn’t be more appropriate this spring, to celebrate a little bit of a renewal of sorts. I think we all need that right now.
Greenworks Tools is the official outdoor power tool sponsor of Earth Day this year, and we want to celebrate in a wonderful way.
We have loved making the switch from gas to Greenworks Tools and have used it as an excuse to teach the kids more about yard work. Greenworks Tools are lightweight, battery-powered {which is GREAT for the environment}, easy to use, and safer in general, without any power loss when compared to gas.
Did you know that cutting down on gasoline is one way you can help the earth? It means less emissions, and smarter for the earth. This is one of the many reasons we absolutely adore Greenworks Tools. We wrote all about why you should make the switch, here.)
Since the kids are at home, helping out more with chores around our yard and indoors, we thought this would be a great opportunity to celebrate earth day with some free printables for your family.
Brought to you in partnership with Greenworks Tools and The Handmade Home, of course. {Also, follow along on the Greenworks Facebook page for more fun ideas to create a sustainable earth.}
This is a little packet with fun for the whole family!
We have a Things I Can Do to Love the Earth sheet, which gives great suggestions on how your kids can help. Little pledges they can take, from recycling, to taking shorter showers. It encourages intentional living and ways we can preserve the earth for little citizens. We love the discussions that progressed when they got this sheet into their hands.
We also created some fun seed packets, to help store and keep up with all of your gardening this year.
Along with adorable little labels to share the love.
We thought these little earth pieces were sweet to add, too. Just cut and use as stickers ,or labels.
We found seed packets + bags here – great to reuse in so many creative ways!
Oh and our gardening tools are from here, in case you’re curious. We’ll be using them to plant all the flowers this year.
They loved this Earth Day Scavenger Hunt. They used it as a little bit of a fun competition, to see who could find the most things!
They also loved working as a team.
The Earth Day Facts Sheet is great to discuss as a family.
It helps us consider more things like recycling, consumption, and what we can do less, or more.
Our kiddos learned some really interesting facts.
Side note: we realize that these are pretty little educational printables for your family, so the irony isn’t lost on us.
Please recycle responsibly and/or use recycled paper.
We paired all of these fun printables with some homemade wildflower bombs!
Wildflower bombs are exactly what they sound like: biodegradable little balls filled with seeds that you can use to grow wildflowers in just about any area.
People use them for “Guerrilla gardening” in otherwise ugly or hard to reach places, and they make the perfect little party favors and fun handouts for friends. {In the future, of course.} The possibilities for these things are kinda endless, in spreading happiness with seeds. But we thought they’d be great for celebrating earth day.
Here’s what you’ll need: Just a heads up, this project is messy and may be best outside with kiddos…
• Organic plant food {aka fertilizer} • wildflower seed packets {we used about eight, and these easily yielded about 40 little “bombs”} • Air Dry Clay {any color you wish – we used white} • glass bowls for mixing • paper surface to work on • more printables {below}
Mix up your plant food – 2 parts to 1 part air dry clay.
We just eyeballed, but if it gets to crumbly, add a little more clay. We simply mixed with our hands until it was good and blended.
Also, these things smell a bit, so be ready ;} We tried not to focus on that one, and think about the end result.
Gather the clay + fertilizer in your hands, and mash it together.
Then scoop up a little with the tip of one of your clay/plant food concoctions, and blend it together with your fingers until you’ve made a little ball.
Let it sit out for a few days, and air dry.
Tada! You have these little ‘wildflower bombs’.
Pair them with this printable here for great fun with spreading the love.
You can safely leave these on your neighbors porch, {thinking more along future lines here with safety} or simply throw them in a fun area while on a hike or in a special area of your yard.
The possibilities are endless, and we love showing the earth a little love.
These are definitely going with our zinnias this year.
As always, we hope you can use them! So Happy Earth day to all of you from the wonderful people at Greenworks Tools, and The Handmade Home, too. We hope that you can use some of these to help spread the love, and spend some time outdoors with family.
What are some things you’ll be doing to celebrate the planet? We’d love to hear your ideas!
Have an inspired day!
