When our sweet clients had a dishwasher leak, they had to take up the flooring. And underneath that flooring was the last owner’s work… they knew they were in trouble. That’s because the last owners left the linoleum underneath. That linoleum is an issue, because they learned after a quick test, it contained aesbestos. (shop the post here)
Aesbestos was banned in 1977. Our client’s house was built in 1974.
So this kitchen became a little bit of an If You Give a Mouse a Cookie conundrum. All that aesbestos… had to go.
We know that aesbestos is a scary word, and leaves a lot of people wondering what to do. With our own renovations for clients, we stick with when in doubt, take it out. We work with professionals who test and know what’s safe. When we did our own house renovation, we knew it would be a process, from lead paint to aesbestos and radon. Bless our sweet hearts and the surprises that come with older homes. Wheee!
We were just glad they have a fabulous and safe kitchen, in the end.
Their kitchen initially sported upper cabinets and dark countertops.
The old owners left an intrusive soffit above the cabinets, which was honestly, showing the kitchen’s age. So we were more than thrilled to tear it all out and give them a fresh start.
We added low maintenance quartz and shelving to open up the far side of the kitchen. Our clients had enough room in their other cabinets, and we love the fresh bright feel it brought to their space. They also had a luxury vinyl installed to lighten and brighten their floors.
Let us tell you. This flooring is so great and durable in their home… we love it with fur babies and real babies. They’ve really come a long way with designs and variety in the past three years. We’re currently installing this in a new kitchen we’re working on, and our client is going to be so happy with the new look + durability.
The fabulous tile is from Jeffrey Court + one of their newest additions: Cambridge Cottage Natural Stone Mosaic Tile.
We adore the fun texture it brought to their backsplash in a unique way!
Here’s an up close of that fabulous detail.
The cabinet colors were a fun option to really bring the space to life.
The colors are Sherwin Williams Gossamer Veil + the island is Oceanside. We love how it brought out hits of blue from their vintage runner, and around their house.
The faucet and sink combo are both from Hausera.
We love the way they work together. Hausera has some awesome options to offer. Our client had a stainless under mount sink before, from the previous owner’s makeover. So it was nice to change it out and give them a little more space.
Simple and clean and such a great change!
Of course the lights are what really brought it all together.
We’re obsessed with the Tollis collection from Kichler lighting, and we were thrilled to add them to this space to give it so much oomph.
So bright and beautiful.
We also added that beautiful brass sconce over the kitchen window, from Kichler.
It’s a part of the Ellerbeck Collection.
And a mini Tollis over their coffee bar area.
Can it be any more adorable? {Say it in your best Chandler voice.}
Ahhh! This fab colorful view just makes us happy.
We hope they feel the same way.
We loved adding hardware with the amazing D. Lawless hardware for some major character.
They come in multiple sizes so you can easily mix and match based on what you need.
We usually bring in styling pieces for our clients in the end, with our final photo shoots. However, these guys had so many fun pieces and accents already, we only added in a few!

Very successful repair! I like light, greater kitchens where it is a lot of space. I for a long time read your blog, it is very cognitive.
