Hey, first, if the manufacture recommends doing or not doing something, that instruction and all recommendations they offer superseded any and all advice we may ever give or anything we may ever show. We are simply showing things we have done, not giving safety or instructional advice for their products.

With that, I think what you are referring to is anchoring directly to a tile wall that has not been properly blocked out, which is never a good idea. Any heavy object such as a TV needs to be anchored into a stud or solid wall. The tile is just a finishing product, not a supportive product. Always anchor into a product that is rated for weight-bearing not simply to something like tile laid on drywall.

I hope that helps.

Thank you for this article and telling me it can be done. I bought a Sanus VMF720 and called Sanus for additional advice. They don't recommend mounting to tile and said if I want to I should contract a professional. Since you say it can be done, despite their recommendation, I'm going to. The one concern I have is how to know how tight to make the bolts. Too tight and I may crack the tile. Too loose and it will be weak. Any advice?

You could use the diamond bit, but I wouldn't recommend it. I would make the quick change to a regular bit.

Thanks for the article. I can't see the date this article was posted, but I have a quick question.

Once your diamond drill bit made a hole in the tile, did you then change the drill bit to a normal one to continue drilling into your stud since the diamond drill bit isn't great for wood drilling?

Hoping to get a reply. Thanks!
