So remember circa November 2012 when I had the most fun I’ve had in a really long time working with three amazing people from Better Homes and Gardens DIY magazine?
No, really. It was an absolute blast. As in, I wish we lived nearby, and we could collaborate regularly with awesome creatives like these guys. We worked hard, and they literally photographed almost every space in our house. They were thorough, thoughtful and super efficient. We were in awe.
But guess what?! It’s heeeeerrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
The other day I went to my mailbox, with a pleasant surprise: The Handmade Home decking out some spreads in Better Homes and Gardens Do It Yourself Magazine…
We’re kind of excited, to say the least.
The kids, are also thrilled. I have no idea what’s going on here, but thrilled. As in, Emerson squealed then went to brush her hair so I could take her picture, while the boys just swatted at things… excited. In retrospect… maybe the boys should have also brushed said hair.
At least it was brushed for the feature.
It’s really fun to have our home documented in such a great way. I can imagine the work that goes into producing such a thing, and the people at BHG did a lovely job.
It’s like a little time capsule!
Here’s a few sneak peeks without giving too much away, but I love how much things have changed around here since then, and what a fabulous job they did of documenting it all! It’s fun to have our home and family frozen in time, in such a special way.
The best part? They even totally gave our four books a shout out. We couldn’t be more thrilled – so awesome!
Um, thank you.
To Better Homes and Gardens- thank you for everything. We’re really humbled, and just excited to be a part of the ride. Adam, Brenda + Jason – it was a blessing and honor to work with you guys – thank you for teaching us so much in just a couple of days with your jaw dropping talent! Better Homes and Gardens sure knows how to pick ’em. ;}
Oh, and total ps. side note where I’m completely full of myself for a moment (read: most importantly) thank you for making us look über cute, even though I’m pretty sure I really had five chins, and my dress was super lumpy from the sweats, Jamin had a major caveman-meets-Kenny Rogers beard (because no shave November is a swell idea right before a mag shoot) and my kids were pretty out of control hyped, jumping up and down with arching backs and everything. I mean, it’s not every day some real live people come to our house. Who knew? It was life, and you still made it work. ;} This took major skillz and it mustn’t go unnoticed.
I still think you took out some chins. ;}
The magazine is available now to subscribers, will be available very soon (if not now) in news stands, and the PDF is also available to download!
Thanks for letting us share such a great experience. Have an inspired day!

I agree with Adam. Ashley, it was a joy working with you. I hesitate to call it work, because you and your family made it so much fun. I knew we’d be friends in the first half hour I met you, when you so trustingly hopped in my rental car to go cruising the countryside in search of flowers. Memories.

I get my DIY magazine at BJ’s because it’s cheaper than a subscription, and I have been looking for it on the racks for a few weeks. Knowing you will be featured is another thing to look forward to!
