Last week, we were more than thrilled to share our reveal of the kitchen. We feel like you guys have been with us, every step of the way… rooting for us. And your sweet comments mean so much.
We got a little bogged down with all things Thanksgiving last week, which was a good thing. But we’re glad to be back this week to talk all things sources! So without further ado… all the deets!
Paint Colors:
The paint colors areHGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams PURE WHITE {HGSW4006}: trim + ceiling + back wall cabinets with a subtle addition of NEBULOUS WHITE {HGSW4057} for the walls {it reads as a nice grey white and makes our trim and ceiling pop.} The island is SAND DOLLAR {HGSW3117}.
We have so much going on in this space, we wanted to keep wall colors muted and bring in color with accents that can change out easily over time.
Flooring:
We were thrilled to install Pergo floors in Flint Maple throughout the main and upper levels of our home. These have a beautiful grey undertone and we’ll be sharing more on why we chose pre-finished [still solid wood] floors ASAP.
So far, we’ve had moving day, the every day living of three kids and two large dogs {who we brought back into the house much to everyone’s chagrin because they’re members of the family, too} and subs working on the house. We are in love with how they’re holding up.
Countertops:
The marble and soapstone are American sourced from Polycor. We are absolutely thrilled with the way these turned out.
We wrote a little bit this past summer on marble in the home, and will be updating you on how they’re holding up… the movement and the feel and the way it finished off the space… we wouldn’t have it any other way. We’re smitten with our Polycor Marble from Georgia.
We’ll be writing more about caring for the Alberene Soapstone from Polycor’s Virginia quarry. soon, too. We are so excited to have the countertops in our kitchen.
LOVE this marble.
Beams
One of the major elements we brought into the space, which we’ll be able to showcase more of when we feature the entire great room {upon its completion} is the ceiling. This space simply wouldn’t look the same without these details.
We shiplapped the ceiling ourselves {tutorial coming next week!} you should have seen us up on that ladder. Also, since I’m kind of leery of heights, I feel like I can accomplish anything now after dangling from a ladder whilst holding a penny and hoisting a big plank over my head all while using a nail gun. Just saying.
And added AZ Faux Beams to wrap our LVL support in the center. It was the perfect solution for our new ceiling which still needed support in the frame… friends are over all the time and comment on how beautiful our ceiling beams are. When we tell them they’re faux, they don’t believe us.
Lighting
The pendant lights are originally from Joss & Main. They may be currently sold out, but they do refill often so keep an eye out!
The light you see in the background is what will be going over our table… available to order through us. We’ll have more beauty shots of that one, soon!
Our island size is 10 x 4 so we love that we can squeeze six barstools in here – perfect for our crew and more guests… which is the plan for this house as our kiddos grow, for sure. I was torn about giving them a soft place to sit because of the issue of kids and stains. So far they’ve had cinamon rolls, ketchup, barbecue sauce and juice… all spilled on them. {The youngest is my messy one} Such is the life of kids. And they came right up with a little water and towel action. Winning.
This space is high functioning for all the things since we don’t have a formal dining room. Which knowing myself, I would just ignore, anyway. We plan to have a large kitchen table and that bar area. Along with our outside. We have plenty of space for entertaining now, but with our grand plan in place in a few years, it will be absolutely perfect.
Windows
The windows in this space… and throughout our house… Are one of our favorite elements. We replaced them throughout to make the home more energy efficient, with Window World. We’re excited to add a nice, clean feel that looks like this, with simple trim to accent the style of the home.
We also stumbled upon some turn of the century stained glass windows and absolutely adore the combo. We feel like we found them at the perfect time.
Appliances
We couldn’t be more thrilled about our fridge. We’ve opted for a pretty practicality this time around, where the kids can do a little more self-serve. Our old fridge is great, but just wasn’t working for us on the every day needs level with kiddos. And we are in love with this one.
We knew we wanted double ovens, but because of the simple layout, needed space for a pantry + fridge on each side of the kitchen. They couldn’t be stacked. We’re thrilled to be using Frigidaire for a simple, uniform, gloriously wonderful set. {Cooktop here}
Space was a little bit of a challenge. We also didn’t want to lose out on the counter space with two ranges if we put in two free-standing side by side stoves in the center. We love to cook, but just thought that counter space was more valuable to us in this space.
Vent
Of course we had the vent outfitted in this pretty little french get up for a hood, and then trimmed it out ourselves. – But we truly love the functionality behind it. We’ll be covering more of the details in a specific post for all things appliances down the road, but for now, know that it came from here, it’s highly efficient and has some awesome lighting at night.
Sink + Faucet + Pot filler
I wanted to try a single bowl fireclay farmhouse sink (from Wayfair) this time, to make room for all those big pots and pans. {Stronger than porcelain so it doesn’t scratch as easily – we LOVE it.}
Along with a pretty little faucet. We love this faucet. It has beautiful, classic lines and something about two knobs that we find refreshing and traditional. It swivels and comes with a great sprayer. Totally efficient for our sink area and easy for the kids to use.
The pot filler is one of those long time things we’ve always wanted. It sounds so silly to be so basic and do so much, but we love having it here to use, right when we need it. No more hauling huge pots of water across the way, and sloshing them everywhere. Because that’s how I roll.
Hardware:
Hardware – Of course, what’s inset shaker style cabinets without those old school turn latches? Duh. We’re smitten and we’ve found a wonderful set from our favorite company D.Lawless with matching pulls here
Backsplash
We combined patterns from Tile Bar and alternated the two of them for a little bit of a different pattern. We love that they look like one big cohesive piece, and that the tile is such a subtle color, it tends to change in the light as the day goes by.
With a few vintage accent pieces, our space was ready to go! We’re loving it. we’ll be back with a few how-tos, but in the meantime if you have any questions, or if we were dorks and left something out… let us know below.
Have an inspired day!

Hi! Love your blog and love your house! Thank you for being so generous with sharing your sources! I love everything about this kitchen! Can you tell me more about the cabinets? Are they custom? I love them!!!
ashley @ the handmade home says
Hey Jill! Thanks so much for your sweet words. They are designed by us through a local company – customized for our kitchen. Probably the biggest chunk of change if you will, that we spent on our home. They’re always a big investment when you go custom but totally worth it to get exactly what you want ;} I hope that helps!

Hi! Love this! I am also looking at doing two ovens side by side, with a cooktop. How did you go about planning the cabinet they would fit it, is there space between the two of them, and how much width is the whole ‘chunk’ of cabinet that encompasses the two ovens – I’m working with strictly 60-61 inches of space. Thanks!
Jamin Mills says
Hey, Shelly. This all depends on the appliances you choose, but cooktops are relatively shallow and the ovens generally have a larger face than the body so there shouldn’t be any issue there. As far as the side by side ovens, I would just look for two that fit within your space and move forward from there.
I hope that helps some and good luck with the reno.
