My daughter is on the other side of college now (age 23), so I have a different perspective. All I can say is, it goes by SO fast!

ADVICE: The best advice I was given was to not worry or be super sad because the first year they are home ALL the time. Between parent's weekend, Thanksgiving and Christmas/winter break, they are hardly at school. Also, texting was a great way to keep in touch because she could respond when it was convenient for her (aka she was not in class) and it was more natural than a forced telephone conversation.

MUST-HAVE: Shower shoes (flips or similar) and a caddy to carry soap, shampoo, etc to/from the showers.

WARNING: The first time we went to see her -- about a month in -- I hardly recognized her. It was as if I were seeing her as a separate entity for the first time. She was more confident, more independent. It hit me hard. Not necessarily in a bad way, it was just... unexpected.

You've got this, Mama. xoxo

This is a beautiful perspective. Thank you so much for sharing. And... for reminding me how fast even college will go by!

I don't know how it is with boys-we are an all girl house here. I do know that college can be as much a roller coaster as high school-with the exception that they are a million miles (or so it seems) away-instead of in the next room.
But you will make it -it will go so fast-you will be looking at another graduation before you know it.

I will say tho-I occasionally miss the little kid times-but when you child is an adult -they can be so much fun. Watching them do adult things and coming into their own life-sometimes surprising you along the way-it is so good.
Good luck to all-the best is yet to come.
