Remember Heather + Andrew’s Story?
We were thrilled to bring you all the changes made in their home, starting with the master bedroom and bathroom that brought so much fun style to Andrew’s Space! We shared a sneak peek over Christmas of the kitchen because we were oh so close, but today we’re thrilled to share the after.
So without futher ado, here’s kitchen space for Andrew and his family – the Sisco Kitchen Reveal!
Here’s one of our before shots… Their kitchen was original to the 1973 {??} house, and you can see it in the shape of the cabinets. Heather and Andrew painted the cabinets just after they moved in, but Andrew and kiddos were definitely ready for a redo.
So we were thrilled to design a beautiful space for their family.
The process was a combined effort with a contractor friend of theirs, and we love the results. We removed the awkward L-shaped island that was really blocking off the space, to open up the kitchen. There was also a lot of unnecessary enclosed space around the older cabinets, which felt like wasted opportunity.
So we were excited to redesign, with some pretty upper glass cabinets, while freeing up the overbearing space around the kitchen window.
While the checkered vintage floor was admittedly kind of fun, bringing in some fresh hardwood from the rest of the house to unify the space, really helped open everything else up too.
We loved adding in a lot of character with a gorgeous new backsplash in tile from Jeffrey Court – it’s available at Home Depot.
It brings in a lot of beauty in natural tones with gorgeous, easy texture.
The space also feels so much larger by opening up just a smaller portion and eliminating those old, heavy cabinets. Their kitchen never had a dishwasher, so we were glad to add that, too.
Goodbye 1973 design. Hello timeless with a touch of modern.
They even installed some much needed, fabulous new windows. Thanks to Window World, they have a shiny new look with open views, more light and of course all the other benefits, like energy efficiency.
The lights are from Kichler – our very favorite source for all things gorgeous lighting.
Their schoolhouse lights have a pretty little unexpected mercury glass addition, and can be found here
Their handsome chandelier over their kitchen table {below} is from here
We even included a sneak peek from the living room, and it’s from here
Moving the fridge {initially blocking the doorway when you first entered} gave us space to create a small pantry, which they didn’t have before.
It’s now here that they can store food, extra plates, and more… all out of sight and out of mind until they need it.
Before, their desk was one Heather found on craigslist and rehabbed for a little work area.
But it was a bit bulky for the space, and didn’t offer much in the way of extra storage.
So we designed a new built in desk with simple shelves to add a little more character, and distract from the off-center window, by embracing it, rather than fighting it.
{Yes, that window could have been moved, but this is reality and the land of budgets… and sometimes you work with what you have.}
We went for a nice simple butchers block, and love how the space has a combination of elements which come together to build a space.
The hardware was like jewelry to a great outfit. We love the polished chrome feel.
In the original space, there was also this wall. It didn’t really work hard for them, other than blocking out the next room.
So we were happy to open it up a bit, and allow a sitting space for the kiddos.
A bar is always an awesome alternative for kitchens, and this is a great option which now frees up more of their dining area.
{With more beautiful Kichler lights – sources above!}
Their countertops are the gorgeous soapstone from Polycor, our very favorite.
The same source we used for our own kitchen.
This amazing stone never disappoints, and we love the contrast and the beauty of natural stone, that it brings to the space.
The eat in area, before, was a bit of a challenge.
While not much could be done to reconfigure the space {due to much needed storage} a banquette was added, to utilize more seating. And suddenly those old paneled walls brought in a lot of charm.
We added in punches of color, along with photos and art from their own collection to show the family’s fun personality.
Along with a fresh table and chairs.
Re-doing this kitchen was oh-so gratifying.
We loved coming together with some awesome people, and making the space more functional and beautiful for a sweet family, all at the same time.
We hope you’ve enjoyed the before and afters of a pretty space. What’s your favorite element? We’d love to hear!
Stay tuned for their kiddo’s bath makeover, too.
Have an inspired day!

Well, I don’t know where to start, it is so stunningly beautiful. I may have gasped. The farmhouse sink, the shelves to balance the window, the pantry and the floors are my favorites. The love just oozes out of this house.

Looks fabulous from the old 1970’s kitchen. You did an amazing job starting from opening the kitchen cabinets and the check floor.
We did our redo completely six years ago and we still sigh when we enter it, so yes, I understand how excited you must be.
Congrats.
