Apparently, alliteration is my jam. I know. I’ll calm down now. I also can’t decide if I need more, or less coffee. It’s a tough call these days. Spring is on the brink, and with fake spring definitely here, {you know, the one where it sikes you out just as you’re ready to break out the white jeans and flipflop combo – do people still say sike {psych}? Do they still wear jeans and flip flops? It’s time to leave the house.} We thought it might be nice to share a few of our favorite ways to spruce up a space for spring. So, to get us through these last few weeks before it’s actually warmer: Six simple spruce-ups for spring!
1. Switch out those pillows
Yes. This is about as basic as the fact that I was totally texting and didn’t see the car rider line pull forward the other day. Party foul. It was embarrassing. Switching out your pillows is the quickest and best way to freshen with a new vibe all around the house.
I tend to use pillow covers when I can, so that storing them and adding them into the rotation again isn’t that big of a deal. I look for great deals and I’m picky, so it’s not a ridiculous pillow hoarding situation. Not too ridiculous, anyway. Shhhh.
Anything with bright colors and fun spring vibes will definitely get me through the remaining colder months. Looking for an easy project? Check out our tassel idea, here!
2. Plant something or bring in some fresh flowers
Treat yoself. the next time you’re at the grocery store, scoop up a couple of cheap bouquets and arrange them around the house.
And until you can actually get out in the warm air with dirt in you hands… is there anything more gratifying than watching something grow? Plant some simple seedlings with your kiddos or prep for spring and all things gardening in your windowsill.
It definitely gives you something to look forward to!
And this is still one of my favorite before and afters. Not an easy project, but the flowers are. Can’t wait to add some fresh spring flowers to this view.
3. Clean the sink and light a candle
I know. I’m so lame. But cleaning is a form of self-care. Seriously, if you can’t get to the rest of the house, cleaning the countertops, clearing the sink, and lighting a candle is a great way to get through the week until you can do a deep clean. And by deep clean, I mean actually vacuuming. #aintnobodygottimeforthat
But my point is, there’s a reason they call it spring cleaning. Make time in your schedule later to tackle that linen closet, do the laundry with the whole family… all the gross things on your list that you don’t want to do. It can totally freshen up your home for spring. I’m speaking to myself, here.
Sometimes it just makes me feel better.
A clean kitchen can save your life. Even though no one told me I’d be prepping meals and cleaning the kitchen UNTIL I DIE.
4. Paint something fresh
Color is underrated, and it’s a great way to breathe new life into a tired space.
It’s also an awesome process to distract yourself once you dive into a project, as you prep for spring.
Fresh coats of new color go a really long way in giving rooms a new look.
5. Move your art around
From photos of your kids to the free art we have here… and our studio as well. There are plenty of awesome options for all things art around the home!
A great way to give a tired wall a fresh face is to switch out some of that art, and invigorate a room with a new feel.
Freshen it up with a fun piece.
It’s a great way to celebrate spring!
6. Add a Mirror Ball
This one might seem a little comical, but it’s my very favorite tip. It actually gets kinda gloomy here in the winter, so any way that I can bring in a little happy, this thing tends to rotate around the house. Everyone loves a little sparkle! This mirrorball is large and in charge, and the perfect size for a fun impact.
Everyone can use a little sparkle in their lives!
It’s crazy how much brighter and fun it can make everything feel.
So these are a few of our quick tips for spruce-ups around the home…
Here’s to spring!
May it be here soon.
What are some things you do to freshen up for spring? We’d love to hear!
Have an inspired day!

This will sound snarky in written form and is absolutely not meant to be snarky….’sike’ is actually spelled ‘psych’ which comes from the word psychology. (And now I feel old because I remember when the phrase “psyched you out” came into vogue, lol!)
ashley @ the handmade home says
HAHA! Not at all. I know I’ve had my fair share of grammatical errors over the years, and I went back and forth about this one since “SIKE” is how it was spelled in my childhood. Apparently it’s found in the urban dictionary and an acceptable word in scrabble? So Imma leaves it. ;}

Do you have a source for the runner rug in your kitchen? That would brighten up my kitchen!
ashley @ the handmade home says
Hey! I’ve had this rug for YEARS. I have no idea where I purchased it – maybe joss + main? I’d also try rugs.com for a runner. I hope that helps! ;}
