psssst…. shop our spaces here!
If you remember from our last few posts, we’ve had our hands full with all things in the Frogtape® Paintover Challenge! If you’re just checking in, you may want to see posts one {where we talked all things design} + two {progress and how-to’s} here! But without further ado, here’s what our teen boy bedroom design looks like now! {After a real quick before, of course.}
In our last post, painting the wall with FrogTape® was quite the task, but really therapeutic since there were such clean lines!
When the last piece of tape came down… this was our big reveal!
teen boy bedroom design
And we have to say… he absolutely loves it!
{watch the fast motion video below}
We brought in natural textures, fun hues, and pattern on top of pattern for a nice, polished, handsome feel for our teen boy bedroom design.
We adored bringing in funky vintage vibes with that New England preppy feel, along with pattern, darker colors in our fabrics, and all things masculine.
This space was an accumulation of a lot of things we already owned, combined with some upcyling from our own collection, and a few {totally worth it} splurges.
We adore the way the wall turned out. You can see the how-to for that, here.
We keep fielding questions from friends when they ask if it’s wallpaper. No… just our take on using FrogTape®! They can’t believe it was painted with such sharp, clean lines and a fun design!
In every room we’ve ever put together for our kiddos, there has always been a touch of my art.
We don’t really mind building up our collection and doing something fresh. One day when they have kids of their own, I hope to have a king’s ransom of ideas to pull from – original handmade art by me that they can use in their own homes. It’s just something I want to hand down to them.
If you remember, this is the way the bedroom originally looked when we first purchased the house.
We’ve come such a long way, filling it with love and memories!
We love the open feel of all the bedrooms together on the top level of our house.
We also love that they can still see each other with their shared closet and the sleeping room set up for each other’s spaces.
teen boy bedroom design – bringing in the fun and vintage
One of the last minute additions came when we were putting the space together. It was a bit of an epiphany/happy accident, and I never planned it until I was ready to photograph.
I was looking for both some art to go on the wall, and a piece that he could place in the corner to call his own. I remembered that I’ve had my grandmother’s record player stashed in storage for years now. When she passed, I specifically asked if I could have it, before Aiden was even born. Her daughters {my mom and aunt} were getting rid of it, so I jumped on the opportunity. We were newlyweds and went with a U-Haul trailer to pick it up.
I remembered timidly checking it out as a child in my grandmother’s formal living room, mesmerized by my mom and aunt’s record collection. From the Beatles to Elvis and The Mamas and The Papas, and of course some Sinatra… we decided the record player would be perfect to hand down to Aiden.
We’re currently looking into having it restored, and he’s a music lover at heart who loves the guitar. He says he wants to start a collection of his own, so I gave him a few of our own, to start.
Sentimental pieces with meaning are the very best, after all.
She kept all her pieces in mint condition, so I’m hoping that the needle and arm or something small is all that needs to be replaced. Fingers crossed!
teen boy bedroom design – lighting and accents
This gorgeous light is from Kichler, linked below in our sources.
We love how the lines reflect the preppy plaid pattern!
If you remember, {you have a steel trap for a mind if you do} when we first took on the rehab I really wanted to lose that shelf in the corner to free up more space, and couldn’t. Due to the roofline and the path of the HVAC, this was the least invasive option on a return vent for the other side of the wall. Happy endings do exist: Aiden now has it for all the favorite things in life – his books.
And we agree, it couldn’t be more important for our little bookworm to have a space for all those favorite books.
We were sure to include a few of his fave childhood classics as well, and my piggy bank as a child, too.
It only felt right that it “officially” go to him – it sat in his and his brother’s shared space in our old house, as well. His nursery was Peter Rabbit, {no worries, it was totally classic and not too overt – as my own nursery was Peter Rabbit, too} and probably the first space where I discovered that I absolutely loved doing children’s rooms.
So it fit perfectly right here.
This fabulous art was a flea market find from a while back that was actually in our basement to begin with. I stumbled upon a fabulous artist at the Nashville Fair Grounds, where they print vintage pieces on burlap and frame them in old windows. I was kicking myself when I realized that this would be perfect in his space, instead. So I moved it, surrendering it to a greater cause.
The kids have fondly named him General Bob.
The old jar was my Dad’s Mother’s, and is the perfect stashing space for all the little things that tend to linger, rounding them up nicely.
The texture on these tables are awesome for a little bit of that Preppy New England vibe we were going for! Especially paired with the lamps. They feel like a faux snake skin.
teen boy bedroom design – repurpose
You may remember this old desk and chair combo from our last house. Originally from Target, we had two and the desks were red. And then grey when this space was our temporary studio. Then one stayed gray and went into the younger kiddos’ space, and this one fit perfectly in Aiden’s room.
We simply gave it a fresh coat of paint, changed the hardware from stainless to brass with some gold leaf paint we have on hand, and paired it with my old desk chair that I restored once upon a time.
Winning.
Aiden was so into his space, he helped us piece it all together, and approved of everything we purchased in as we went. He even had a few color suggestions to which we happily obliged. But my very favorite part, was when he helped me style it for the photographs.
He loved being my assistant for the day. The guitar, book placement and army men were definitely his idea.
We think they melded oh so perfectly!
teen boy bedroom design – little touches
We loved adding this camel {pleather} color that was one of the key elements to all things Preppy New England style. We thought it especially conveyed that great feel and balanced out the fabulous plaid and denim oh so perfectly.
Especially when paired with our old woven rug. It’s from our old homeschool setup once upon a time.
So here we are!
You may remember from our first post, that this is a competition between six bloggers…
Each blogger was randomly assigned to one of FrogTape’s six 2018 Design Trends, received a bucket of painting supplies and a $1,000 budget to redesign a room. It’s here that we’ve shared our posts featuring before, during, and after content, showcasing our assigned trends, inspiration, and project progress.
Here’s the part where it gets a little competitive: Now that each makeover has been posted, FrogTape® will leave it to the public to vote on the winning Paintover Challenge project! The winner will receive $10,000 to donate to a charity of their choice, and the opportunity to be featured in a FrogTape® advertisement in HGTV Magazine.
And what charity have we chosen?
Curechildhoodcancer.org for the win!
As we mentioned in our first FrogTape® post, Jamin is a childhood cancer survivor. It’s a cause that’s more than near and dear to our hearts. So we’re thrilled to announce that our winnings will go directly to this most important cause. We hope that when the time comes, you’ll join us in voting and share so that our charity can win! It’s something we’re truly passionate about. ;}
We’d love to have your vote!

We’ve been torn between sweating bullets over the 29 cents. And also, we regret nothing.
So basically, we’re going with we regret nothing. Bedrooms are pricey because of big pieces and things like mattresses, and we really pulled all our resources together from our own storage unit where we house our finds, past design jobs for clients and old rooms pieced back together from our last house. Tada! We love how everything fits together!
As always, let us know if you have any questions.
We’d love to hear from you.
Be sure to check out FrogTape® for your next project!
And don’t forget to vote for our room and our cause, Curechildhoodcancer.org Voting is open here!
Have an inspired day!

I once painted a diamond pattern on an accent wall probably close to the size of your accent wall here. It took forever. I used a chalk line though to help with the straight lines. I’m impressed Jamin just used a level ?!?!? Wowzers at the work, but very impressive finished product. I’d love to do this in my big boy’s room in the next year or so. Right now the two boys share a room which I love!
