If you’ve been following along on our addition progress, I think it’s been a few weeks since we’ve checked in. There was the last day of school, then we were out of town, we hit a little bit of a lull with other deadlines we had and… and… and…
Yay for never ending lists!
If you’re new here and have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about, you can check out more progress posts :
• Our beginnings and all the past phases for our current home.
Then for the addition:
• the framing
• windows + door choices
• mantel plans
• insulation and drywall
We also answered a reader question about a little bit of our process and the direction to go, in case you’re thinking about taking on one of your own rehabs/additions! – Just a few of our best tips on the process.
Next, we talked about why we’re doing it. Because our home has definitely been a process, and it was a great question. With a side of how to plank your ceilings, here.– Along with ironic tees.
{affiliate links below}
So now that we’re finished with trim on said addition, we’ve been busy painting it! We’ll definitely be sharing more on the how to for this one soon, because we used a fantastic sprayer. Those blue ceilings have us pretty excited, though. {Paint colors below!}
If you’ve been following along on Insta stories, Jamin, with our 13 year old’s help, wrapped the beam just a few days ago. {Teens are totally underrated in stereotypical movie roles, btw. Because ours is totally awesome.}
If you’re wondering what the perfect wood look and stain combo is, it’s red oak + this stain from minwax, if we do say so ourselves. Jamin says I have expensive taste. I have no shame. It’s drool-worthy, really.
The mantel is ready to come to life, and next up, we have tile!
We’ll be sharing more on that process, too… and hope to finish it up this week! We’re definitely at the fun stage, and oh so excited to see our vision come together. Which brings me to…
Inside plans. Because once upon a time, we thought we were ready to get started, so I shared a rough idea as to what we thought we wanted on the inside. As the plans evolved and the project did too, we realized we have specific things that we wanted the space to have, along with purposes they serve.
This will be a multifunctional space: A dining space for entertaining, a painting studio for me + a writing area {working from home with five humans and two large dogs dictates we need a little room to spread out – Jamin has his own requirements}, a room for family to gather, entertaining space, and more. We described the why, here so be sure to check it out if you’re all, why are they doing this?
And all with designated storage spaces since it needs to work hard. I’m going out of order per usual…
1. Paint Colors:
We knew our colors needed to blend wonderfully with the rest of our house. So while we carried out a lot of the same, here’s the list! Outside: brick, paired with awesome siding to match the outside redo a-la window world so that it blends seamlessly with the rest of the house: Brick color – pure white + door color outside: seaworthy – a gorgeous navy blue from Sherwin Williams.
Inside:
• tidewater – the same blue you already see throughout our house on the upstairs and basement ceilings.
• egret white – walls
• pure white – trim
• bungalow beige – accents {new armoire color} + inside door color
• agate green – hanging bed + dining table make over
12. Windows + doors are from the fabulous Window World
Did you know that you can pick your own finish? Yes, please. {We listed those above!} We’ve replaced all the windows in the house with Window World, along with an outside makeover which has really rocked our world and changed the entire feel for the house. We couldn’t love it more.
Furniture:
Okay. So if you’ve seen the layout before, then you know that one side will have a fireplace and sitting area, and the other will have a built-in banquette and dining situation on the other side. We’re thrilled to team up with la-z-boy and all their amazing products. We also chose their iclean fabrics since we can’t really mess around. {Almost all the fabrics here are iclean, or indoor/outdoor because children. No one wants to babysit their house.}
6. Chairs – two of the amazing Chandler recliners – you know we can’t resist stripes.
9. Sofa – we chose the York sofa from La-Z-Boy. Contrast in the Welting, brass nailhead. And I’ve wanted an english rolled arm for a while now. Yes please.
8 + 17. Coffee + side tables – are also available through La-Z-Boy. We love the idea of a fun modern take on the space!
12 + 13 + 15 – up cycled + hand built.
We’re reusing our long dining table from our last house – {similar find here} anyone remember it? Yes, it has actually been sitting in storage this entire time. Yes you do get a prize if you have any idea to what I am referring. Along with our armoire – {similar find here} one of the pieces we’ve owned since the beginning of our marriage. It was damaged in the move + both will be getting makeovers a-la a little elbow grease. We also can’t wait to build a hanging bed – We’ve wanted one forever, along with a bookshelf/banquette combo for dining.
Dining chairs from here – scored on sale.
2 + 3+14 Fabrics + Pillows + Cushions, oh my!
14. Cushions – Paired with these cushions – I purchased three on sale, and had one shortened so that I can use all three on the banquette since the length of the bench will not run the entire space- a cheaper option than a full-on custom piece. We also have one left over now, for a floor cushion. That is, if the dogs don’t steal it. ;}
The main fabric we plan to use is part of La-Z-Boy’s collection. It’s carried exclusively through them, and I fell in love with the look. So much so, that we will be paring it with other fabrics + pillows as the main color scheme/look, and I can’t wait to show you how we’ll use them!
• striped fabric + sunbrella {scored on sale!} + chambray {something similar} + yellow stripe pillow + blue stripe pillow
4. Tile: Remember the tile from our basement renovation? – It’s the awesome oakwood lily + Jeffrey Court’s Trade side tile around the fireplace, {IT’S GORGEOUS and I’m OBSESSED} from here. We discussed more details on all things fireplace and the design here.
10. Art: Our original art, to cover the TV – by us available here. I also have a fun idea for photos of the kids we can’t wait to show you.
5 + 7 Lighting –
sconces / chandy over dining area / chandy over living area – the lights, of course are from Kichler – we love all their designs + can’t wait to show you how they’ll look in the space! We’ll also have this amazing light outside.
14. Window Treatments – {yes, apparently I had two items for one number.} We knew we wanted the option for privacy in the back, and to shut out those late daytime direct sunlight things when it comes to movies, etc. We’re going with these awesome woven blinds from Select Blinds.
16. Door – Our old door, while great at the time, now swings inward and it didn’t make sense to keep it there. While we do want to keep the spaces separate, we’re thrilled to use a fab door from artisan hardware. We’re long time fans. ;} It still maximizes light for the rest of the house, but we can close off the back room when we want to.
11 + 17 Accessories
Rug – we spied this rug here + are so glad to use a nice neutral piece to blend nicely with the rest of the fabrics and look.
Because every space needs a little greenery, I’m now the proud mama of a fiddle leaf fig + perfect basket pairing.
We used this sign in our pool house build, but I love it so much, I had to have one for myself.
{Brass Tray = to the trade – available to order through us}
3. Wallpaper – we plan to use it on an accent wall – found here.
That about wraps up the insides, and where we are so far. Thanks so much for tuning in! We can’t wait to show you the final design.
Let us know if you have any questions + Have an inspired day!
