This house is one of our favorite renovations, and it’s been a slow burn of a project which is well worth the wait. This gorgeous home is located in Chattanooga, so it was a bit long distance when it comes to all things design. The sweet homeowners took on the hard labor themselves, with our design guidance. Today we’re thrilled to share the awesome afters.
We’ll start with the outside.
This home has good bones, but needed a nice update on the color front. We were happy to figure out a great color scheme to brighten it all, while preserving the beautiful classic stone on the bottom half, underneath. These colors needed to work together in many ways to bring the house back to life.
Main house color: Benjamin Moore Knoxville Gray
Trim: Classic Gray with the tops of railing and stairs in Benjamin Moore Squirrel Tail
Underneath the house: We thought it was good to bring in some softer hues to that drop down configuration, so we chose Benjamin Moore Green Wave on the ceilings.
They’re in the process of updating their garden area and walls, but we think they look oh so great with all the final colors!
Fresh colors definitely updated the stone without competing with it, or having to paint it – which made everyone involved, happy.
We loved bringing in an earthy stain color to help highlight those stone hues, and tie the entire house together.
It’s oh so welcoming now!
Underneath the porch was the same way.
It needed a little love and this was the perfect opportunity for all things entertaining poolside.
So we softened it with more paint colors, and brought it all to life with great, classic pieces.
It’s truly amazing what a little paint {and pressure washing} can do. {And by a little, we mean a lot. This was a lot of work. Major props to them!}
Lighting:
Some outdoor lights from Kichler also helped liven it all up – and anchor the various areas that were designated for dining and entertaining.
We loved placing this light over the sitting area, an outdoor chandelier over the dining table, too.
This under deck area is perfect for all things entertaining on warm summer days.
Outdoor lounge furniture:
We loved bringing some real cozy to the underneath with some great finds.
sofa / pillows blue, similar to orange, lumbar {similar} / coffee table {doubles as storage} / rug {similar} / side table {similar} / kichler lantern / chairs
Dining area sources:
The dining area got a whole new look with some fresh furniture, and serves as a lovely space to host all things guests and summer soirées.
table + chairs – both a part of the picadilly dining line / glasses / floral plates / plaid plates {originally from target} / napkins / woven napkin rings / lantern
Such pretty little bright accents for all things warmer weather and outdoor dining!
This whole space is a vibe for warmer weather.
It’s always astounding what a few simple changes can make to an outdoor area!
We’re obsessed with Kichler’s Wall Fans.
We installed some in our cabana this last fall, and it’s a game changer for outdoor entertaining and keeping everyone cool. We adore the look, and vintage feel, too.
These guys have so much space, it was nice to dress up the outer deck, as well.
It was refinished with those great paint colors {listed above} and then polished it off with this amazing dining set.
chairs {similar} / umbrella – it’s all about the umbrella!
We love that there’s a little peek of their handmade hideaway in the background here!
{More on that, below!} So much awesome for one space.
Now with that lovely outdoor space {kind of} squared away – let’s move on to the inside! Because we took on an entire basement renovation with them, and the change was definitely worth it.
Ahhh is that satisfying, or what?
That bar though.
We’re kind of obsessed with the backsplash from our very own favorites a-la Jeffrey Court.
In real life it’s smooth like butta, with lots of sparkles. We’re always here for the sparkles. And there’s something about putting your hands on great tile. We changed that tired, old bar area to give it lots of new life.
Bar area:
books / shelving / baskets / large bowls / multi glassess / blue / purple / medium bowls / small bowls
Fabulous hardware from D. Lawless! We love that simple brass.
We also loved bringing in plenty of pretty art like this painting via Lauren Dunn.
She’s an artist local to Nashville, and we love all her pretty accents + pieces.
Sometimes you can’t do much for those support poles in a space, with the exception of spending thousands more on an LVL beam.
And all too often, it’s not worth it when one can add pretty supports for an existing support pole in its stead. So that drop down ceiling was removed, in lieu of drywall, and a higher option, with well-defined areas. It looks so much larger now.
We loved that our clients have plenty of space to entertain down here, as well, with two sitting areas.
Their bar includes these beautiful lights from Kichler, which provide ample lighting for the space.
{More sources: barstools {similar} + baskets}
This once-awkward door area got a face lift with a handmade barn door + Artisan Hardware’s beautiful brass accents.
Game changer!
Fireplace seating area sources:
blue chairs / love seat / coffee table / rug / basket / chandelier / pillows {1 + 2} / painting
This area was just dying for a makeover, to cover that old awkward door. Behind it was old storage with more access via another opening, so it was definitely time to say goodbye and take advantage of that wall. We love the new solution in its place.
A bookshelf designed by us, built in to the wall looks oh so good!
We accented it with colorful books and baskets.
Sitting area sources:
sofa / chair / table / rug / pillows {stripe – similar / yellow / blue} / lamp /pouf / large prints {simple tutorial coming soon – but I’ll link it here. }
We loved accenting it all with these one of a kind antique children’s books.
This is always a great way to bring in character and fun colors.
The floor poufs give plenty of alternate seating in this area for all things movie and game nights!
Their bar area is the perfect space for entertaining.
And we adore the Jeffrey Court Oakwood Lilly on the floor. Look familiar? We were so smitten with it, we chose it for their basement, as well. It’s literally the perfect tile for big spaces and a need for durable finishes.
It’s all in the details, and this basement isn’t short on beautiful pieces.
Paint colors:
We loved accentuating all the soft hues in the room by bringing in Palladian Blue by Benjamin Moore.
Door colors / bar + entertainment center in grey are Benjamin Moore River Reflections.
The fireplace area got an overhaul with a new mantel, trim, and accessories to update.
Fireplace accessories:
mantel / baskets {similar} / vintage tennessee map {similar} / candles sticks
We love both the dimension and simplicity that the bookshelf brought to this space!
Here’s another before of that bar. Such a better configuration with so much more space now!
This basement is like a breath of fresh air.
Here’s a before of this side of the basement.
They definitely turned this room into a multifunctional space, with room for their workout equipment, too. Hello most useful area ever for 2020.
So fresh and so clean! We want to hang here. All the time.
They also have plenty of space for their kiddos to play. This room definitely works hard.
All in the subtle changes: adding a back section to the kitchenette on the wall, along with a full out sitting bar, and turning the fridge around, just made more sense for all things layout.
We love how bright and colorful it is now.
What a fun before and after! We were truly thrilled to photograph this one so we could share with you guys.
Outside, they built their very own handmade hideaway 2, and we are here for it.
Three things they changed on our original plans, that we really love…
• The fun swirly slide, for a one of a kind exit.
• Easier to access stairs for hands free climbing if needed.
• Railing on the inside windows against the screens since they have younger children, for an extra layer of protection.
We loved styling it here!
hideaway accessories:
cart / rug / pouf / pillows / art 1 +2 + 3
Stay tuned for more fun ideas later this week on all things styling a handmade hideaway!
Once you’ve built your own, we have more fun ideas for finishing off the space.
P.S. The paint colors here are the same as their under porch color – Benjamin Moore’s Green Wave is such a fun, soft blue that almost seems to change color in the light.
We loved decorating it with all these fun accents!
We hope you enjoyed this really fun tour today of this beautiful home in Chattanooga with our amazing clients!
This was a lot to cover in one post, so if we left anything out please feel free to ask below and we’ll try our best to shoot you in the right direction!
