Hey Friends! Happy Friday, and welcome to another edition of the font snob club!
I’m thinking of a new series called : jazz comic sans would say… CS would probably have some valid points. Who’s in? Via.
A history of Comic Sans. Click on over… It’s worth it for the music video tribute to comic sans. Yep. Someone made one. It’s super obnoxious. I think you’ll like it.
So today, I thought we’d try something a little different from the norm. I made a few little handwriting fonts. I really am too much of a snob for this, because one day I would love to invest in a program and design real fonts. Ain’t nobody got time for that. I have children to feed, sleep training to fail at, dog pee to clean, mirror balls to glue... you get the not so pretty picture. So consider this a fake font freebie. Just for fun. I didn’t really want to release anything poorly kerned into the www. It’s my responsibility as a font snob, after all.
You guys may be too big of a snob to try them. I understand.
Font snob problems.
But anyway, here you go. They’re actually in my handwriting. So type something to yourself, close your eyes, and pretend they’re love letters from me.
Here’s a few rules:
1. They must only be used in moderation.
2. Cora must never be used in all caps. EVER. Or Papyrus will sneak into your home and take your children. Font karma.
3. Still a better option than Comic Sans.
Simply click on over to our freebies page, and look for fonts. Enjoy!

Yay! How exciting and awesome is this!! You are my go-to expert on all things font snob. To have a sample of your cute handwriting is super cool (and seems weirdly creeperish to say). I’ve always wanted to make my own font. HOW Awesome!
ashley @ the handmade home says
So glad you can use them! I had fun making them! ;}

I’m definitely not too much of a font snob to use these. They’re adorable and perfect. I don’t know if you do link parties, but I’d be THRILLED if you’d link up at this week’s Off the Hook!
ashley @ the handmade home says
I don’t usually ‘get out’ much but to check up on my friends so I am slow to this sort of thing because this blog is like a baby on it’s own! I just over-explained myself to say not usually, but I’ll have to check it out! ;}
lauren says
I totally understand. I just figure it doesn’t hurt to ask… I’m a relatively small blog, but it’s growing. I’ve been surprised that a really big blog actually linked up this week. Makes this little blog girl feel pretty good. I’m getting close to a million hits and I’m going to be giddy when that happens… even though I know tons of sites must get that in just a few days. Oh well. Such is life 😉
I so enjoy your blog… Your home is beautiful, and I love how you keep it real sharing how it actually looks sometimes.
Have a great weekend!
ashley @ the handmade home says
No, I totally get it! Been there! I know what it’s like. like I said, I try to do more! ;} Will have to check it out. ;}

LOVE elsies alphabet! I have tried in the past to download fonts, but being the bonehead that I am, I fail. Is there an explanation somewhere on how to download, then actually be able to FIND them and INSTALL them??? I seem to always struggle with the last 2!!!
ashley @ the handmade home says
Hey Mary! I recommend googling that question based on your computer and font program. I only have a mac, and even from there it can be different based on what program you have. I haven’t really wanted to get into it because I am not an expert on anything but what I have. Usually it’s pretty simple. I would recommend a search!
Laura G. says
Oh, these are PRECIOUS!! I love handwritten fonts! Thank you for these. Well done!!
Barb Lewis says
Thanks so much for these. I am a font wh%^e and probably half of what is on my computer is fonts, which is why I never seem to get a project done in a timely manner (takes hours to pick the PERFECT font!) <3
Tina says
I cannot get it to download or work for me. Help!!! What am I doing wrong?
ashley @ the handmade home says
I’m sorry… I don’t know. Have you checked your downloads folder? It should work as a zip file, and from there you may open. I don’t do tech support… you may want to get a friend to look at it. sorry!
Stephanie (@SaltIsYourFriend.com) says
How lovely, thanks for sharing! I’ve wondered if I could create my own handwriting font and you’ve inspired me. 🙂

Thanks again!

That video tribute you linked to was too funny! I love your fonts, especially Cora — thank you!
Stacy says
I love your fonts (snobbish or not) but how the heck do you download them. Feeling like an idiot. Your statement about not being able to create fonts due to time. Seriously, I am in awe of everything you deliver and accomplish with kids and all. I have kids and I can barely get a project completed per week. You are my hero and you should write a book about how you balance it all. I’d totally buy it!
ashley @ the handmade home says
Hey Stacy! You’re too funny. Don’t feel like an idiot. I would completely google it, based on your computer and font program you have. If I tried to cover it, it would take a. days, and b. there would be angry mobs because everyone would get a virus or their computer would shut down. I am not a technologically savvy person. Jamin makes fun of me all the time and calls me the CSO of The Handmade Home. (creative side only.) I’m cool with that. Sorry I’m not much help. Oh, and if I wrote a book on balance, everyone would be completely lost and feel utterly hopeless… because I’m desperately seeking it out right now! ha! ;} Let me know if you figure it out. I’ll buy YOUR book.
Jesabes says
I love them! I love the sample sentences for each font as well:)
Sue Lambrix says
can these fonts be downloaded on a Mac computer
Thank you!
Michele Nelson says
I am seriously patting myself on the back for figuring out how to download all 3 fonts, with no frustration, in under 10 minutes! I am also 99% on my way to vowing to never use CS or Papyrus ever again. I feel blessed that you told us about those 2 fonts being what they are. I had no idea. It’s almost like someone told me there was spinach in my teeth, or that my skirt was tucked into my tights in the back…. a mixture of relief, humiliation & fear. SO GLAD I stumbled upon your blog!
Moxie Lisa says
Pretty pretty fonts! And yes, I am a comic sans hater but it doesn’t come close to my hate of curlz font…don’t get me started on that one! 😉
Hillary @ The Friendly Home says
I just updated the OS on my Mac and it added a bunch of weird fonts. As I was re-organizing them, I decided it was time to FOREVER be rid of Comic Sans and Papyrus. So into the trash they went. I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. 😉 And now off I go to replace them with your cute handwritten ones. Thanks!
Sharise says
I love all of these and all the quirky comments in-between. Keep them coming.
Miti says
You are an awesome person. (FREE FONTS!) You are awesome… wait I already said that.
Kate says
Hi, there! I love your fonts! I’m curious if I’m allowed to use these for a commercial purpose. =) My husband sells custom bottlecaps and I am designing templates. So it would be like when you order stationery online – you change the text to what you want and my hubby prints up bottlecaps. For homebrewers. And I suppose crafters, too. But anyway I was wondering if I can use your fonts for that. =) Thanks so much!
ashley @ the handmade home says
Hey! Right now we’re sticking to personal use only. Thanks so much! ;}

Wonderful job on these and thank you so much for sharing! I’m happy that despite your having “snobbish” design integrity, you still put these out for all to share 🙂

I am so happy Layla sent me your way~ Such a fun blog. I am signing up!
I am interested in the free fonts but I can not figure out how to download them so there won’t be error messages ~ They show in my download folder but the message says they can not be downloaded. I am Windows 7 PC Windows. Can you think of a direction to point me to get instructions.
ashley @ the handmade home says
Hey Jane! I am sorry… Usually just downloading them and getting them from the folder to the program is what I do… but I will be no help because I am a Mac gal! 🙁 I hope you are able to figure it out.
beth says
