Remember our post a few weeks ago where we featured all the fantastical handmade hideaways?
One of our very favorite things to see is where our readers absolutely put us to shame come up with beautiful versions of their own, after using ours as a bit of a launching pad.
So when we saw this version from one of our sweet friends Dondi in Nashville, we about fell over and realized this gorgeous handmade hideaway {we’re fondly referring to it as the cottage edition} needed it’s own little tour.
Also, Emerson saw this one and feels a little shorted in the all-things-amazingly-fabulous-girly department. {Sorry kid. This is what happens when you’re smack dab in the middle of two brothers.}
So without further ado, The Handmade Hideaway {Awesome Cottage Edition} :
Dondi Says: After falling in love with The Handmade Home treehouse, I drew up my spin of that on paper and hired somebody to build it. He worked 2 days and I TORE IT ALL down and just did it myself!
If you want something done right, do it yourself!
The barn door I made does really slide. It’s just furring wood, some iron plumbing pipes & casters.
Brilliant. Yes, please.
We love the way she included the side entrance with these great little stairs!
She even has a bottle opener… it’s the little things, y’all.
Art display wall, Kitchen and/or Mj’s Market.
The art wall is just painted wainscoting & the market is the one I made from an old toy storage case.
The stove is just crown molding upside down with wooden knobs.
Her Rapunzel window
This adorable reading nook with storage under for toys is the perfect little addition!
The purple phone on the wall is her favorite part! (The other half is somewhere in the yard because she is on it all the time talking to Granny T!)
I made the shutters made from vintage barn wood.
The tree house is made from Hardywood Planks, because my dream house would be white Hardywood with a tin roof! 😉 The bubble shingles are MDF board (primed primed primed!) that I just cut out with a jig saw.
Still trying to get all the grass to grow back. 😉 Plans for this Summer are MJ’s cafe on the lower level and a big girl swing out to the left side. She has a toddler swing in the tree but is getting too big for that.
We adore this little cottage version, Dondi! We can’t wait to come play in it in Nashville ;} If you look out your window and see us sliding down your slide, don’t be freaked out at all. Thank you so much for the tour!
Just a shining example of how you really can take something and make it your own – and provide eye candy for the rest of us. We can’t wait to create another hideaway when we move… you guys have upped the anté so Jamin says we need a zip line and a jacuzzi.
Kidding not kidding.
We wanna see your hideaway! Just tag it #handmadehideaway on instagram – we’d love to feature you!

OMG, that is like the cutest little play house I’ve ever seen! Love everything about it, what a lucky little girl. I bet all her friends love coming over to play.

I love it! So much love put into it. But I still love your original as well because it’s more real life for me. We’ve got a girl stuck right in the middle too and is always getting gipped in the girly department…she’s got 6 brothers!

Fantastic read. Looking to maybe doing this for the kids over the weekend.
