So I have this friend who is an ah. ma. zing cook. No. Really. As in, chica could have her own cooking show and put all the professionals to shame, amazing. You may remember this little post from last summer. If she had her own show (and she should) Kay’s Kitchen would be the title. Anyone from the Food Network hear me?
Once I tasted some of Kay’s delicious food, I knew I was in love, and I asked her to share some of her wonderful recipes here with you awesome people. I fully intend to have this über talented, little gem of a cook here on more than one occasion to share some of her wonderful, mouth watering and super simple to boot, ideas with all of you…so sit back, and take notes! You’ll thank me later…

Hey y’all! First I want to say thanks to Ashley for asking me to share one of my favorite recipes. When asked to write a guest food post for The Handmade Home, it was actually a no-brainer for me on which one I would use. We love this little sweet potato dumpling recipe. We use it all the time, because it goes so seamlessly with so many things. So without further ado…
2 packages of crescent rolls + 1 package of sweet potato patties cut in half (I usually get them from Publix. They are usually in the freezer troughs)
Take each patty half and roll it in a crescent triangle. {It’s going to make 16 dumplings} In a saucepan, heat 2 cups water, 2 cups sugar, 1 ½ sticks of butter, 1 tbls corn starch and 1 tsp vanilla just until it boils. Be sure to whisk it as it heats, or your corn starch will not lump up. As soon as it boils, pour cover the dumplings and bake @ 350 for 45 minutes.
Sprinkle with cinnamon when you pull them out.
Voilá!
I’m still trying to decide if this is a side or a dessert. Meh. Does it really matter? They melt in your mouth, regardless! Oh and by the way, not many foods taste as good after you heat them up the next day. Well, let me tell ya…these little suckers are just as good the second go ‘round. Definitely a winner in my family’s book!

I think these would be good if peaches were added to your sugar sauce. Like a peach sweet potato cobbler. Then with a cinnamon honey whipped cream topping.

How do you print this recipe?

Do you thaw the sweet potatoes before wrapping them in the crescent rolls?

No need, Jennifer! Hope that helps!
