Last week, we were thrilled to announce a little project we have in the works with the wonderful La-Z-Boy for the Ronald McDonald House. A cause that’s near and dear to us, we can’t wait to get started. It’s a beautiful cause for families, and if you missed that post, there’s a great backstory {in said post} about the organization and what they’re all about.
And today, we wanted to share another little sneak peek of sorts for what we have in store for this great space. Of course this little graphic doesn’t really do the final space or pieces justice, but it was still fun to show a few of their beautiful products and some of the ideas we can’t wait to try out.
Of course all of the products are available at La-Z-boy, as all of the pieces are being graciously provided by them. So we thought we’d keep it simple here with some basic depictions of the gorgeous finishes we can’t wait to bring into this room.
The goal was to choose practical, low maintenance, durable pieces for the space, as it’s used mainly for initial meeting/counseling with families, and gatherings in the house. We wanted it to be welcoming, versatile for rearranging as needed, and comfy. And while the house has plenty of game/playroom areas for kids, we still wanted it to be kid friendly, as we thought it was crucial for our most important guests. We chose things like two sofas in great finishes {with a beautiful contrasting welting we can’t wait to share}, a coffee table with nesting pieces for easy gathering, and some fun poufs for the kiddos. The trestle table in the back even doubles as a fold out so they can use it for parties when they need it. And those houndstooth chairs… {you should visit their showroom just to sit in those chairs} are the perfect sitting area for weary feet.
Besides the gorgeous pieces La-Z-Boy is donating, here’s a few other elements we were excited to talk about today!
1. The power of paint: We’re honored to work with Aspen Construction, for the installation. {It takes a village to put together a room out of town- be sure to check out some of their beautiful homes!}
So we decided that first things first, the space definitely needed a new life with some color. The sweet shades are Sherwin Williams Copen Blue + Extra White. This space is challenging, to say the least, and we think that some color will really add some much needed character to the space. Instead of struggling with a few awkward alcoves, we now have the architecture working with us by simply changing the colors in the room. The entire dynamic of the space is now altered, and it’s an easy, affordable solution to an otherwise challenging problem.
Without any of the other elements in the space we plan to use, here’s a quick mockup of the huge difference it can make. It brings in some personality, and the colors aren’t dead on as the contrast will actually be a bit softer, but when these walls are finished, they’ll carry a different look and we can’t wait to see how something so simple can bring in a totally different feel.
2 + 3. The mantel: This space was definitely lacking one, so we’ve decided to have one built. Installing a shiplap feel up this mantel help define the space, and cozy up the room for the families. An easy, practical fix for a challenging area with limited options, it really anchors it all.
Here’s a quick hybrid mockup we cooked up to share our ideas. {Original mantel inspiration via dreamy whites- ps her home is gorgeous.} Again, this is a simple addition without major upheaval in the home that will add some real personality. Placing a mantel in this room gives the space a focal point and helps ground the design.
PS. If anyone is wondering, we’ve consulted with the wonderful Ronald McDonald people, and that beautiful quilt {we debated over even moving it and can’t imagine all the hard work that went into the piece} will still have another home in the house, along with the other furniture. We’re glad nothing will be wasted in this process.
We’re thrilled to team up with the awesome Brad from Fix This, Build That, who is bringing his expertise to the mantel design. He does such beautiful work, and he will be sharing a tutorial for that, after the installation. We can’t wait to share his great piece.
3. The Art: It’s kind of our thing when it comes to spaces. It was important for us that the walls have real meaning, and bring depth to the final feel of the room.
We wanted the space to have a touch of Nashville sprinkled throughout. There’s so much life, culture and good vibes in this city. So we visited Hatch Show Print, when we were in Nashville visiting family over the holidays. The graphic designer and art buffs in us couldn’t resist the old school beautiful creations they carry on their historical printing presses. We’re thrilled to display some of their art in the space.
We also have a few tricks up our sleeve of our own, and can’t wait to show you what we’ve cooked up for some pieces a-la us in the space. We’re thrilled to bring a bit of our handmade touch into the room, and can’t wait to share more as the space progresses!
Putting together a room like this isn’t possible without the awesome contributions from La-Z-Boy. We’re so grateful for the wonderful people to help with the installation, too. We’re thrilled to work with such an amazing team, and can’t wait to share the final space. Until next time…
