Do you guys remember this post, where we announced how excited we were to be beginning a new project at our own home? The All Seasons Room!
We’ve been super busy behind the scenes with some fun projects for clients. From a full-on pool house, to a couple of kitchen and basement completions, and a little in between… we can’t wait for these reveals. It’s funny how sometimes, projects come in waves a-la design for fabulous clients. And we were also kind of excited to expand a little more, on the home front. You know, for ourselves.
The All Seasons Room – first things first
But let’s back up. Because I shared our original post in late March.
If you’ve been reading here for a while {and rolling your eyes at our antics} you probably know what happened. I knew deep down in my bones, that I was being premature with said “announcement”. I just knew it. And I did it anyway. Because TOWANDA #namethatmovie – Obviously, it’s because I was so excited. And since all is fair in love and Williamson County {Franklin (Nashville) TN} renovation queues, here we go again.
It’s been in the books for a while now, but if you’re familiar with our Money Pit series, then you know our entire renovation process has been a ride.
Stage four {?} of the money pit additions. {Stages 5, 5.5, 6, 7, & 8 still to come… yes, each number stands for something – stay tuned in case you thought we were actually finished with our house ;}} I love living in our home and feeling settled, and getting off the hamster wheel for a while, but we have quite a few things that are as fun as this one up our sleeves. All in due time, my friends.
The All Seasons Room – Stage 4
Digression. Because if stage one was the entire upper and main levels of the reno, stage two the basement, stage three the outside… {see them all here from the last page, forward} I’m staying focused, and stage 4 is this really fun all-seasons porch combo. It’s just what we need for our busy family of five {and 2 giant 70 lb. dogs}.
So, if you’re familiar with our journey {and again, feel free to read up on all our little adventures over the entire process per the links above the first time because septic is SO much fun, y’all – patience is now my greatest ally} we actually received our official permission to move forward about one month ago.
There was a celebration and we were oh so excited.
But before that piece of paper even came in… we decided to push it back.
The All Seasons Room – Victory Selfie
We took a victory photo of the occasion because all permits must be documented. But we decided to push it back for a lot of reasons, mainly because Summer. We stepped back, and took a moment, remembering why we purchased this house in the first place. The yard and community and school, for starters. And because of that, we adore celebrating with our wonderful friends. And because of that the construction that’s about to begin right outside our doors, would be a giant, wet, wool blanket on all our fun.
Priorities. It’s been a pleasure to push it back for the things that matter. Our people.
From the kids’ friends coming over, to dinner parties, and even a therapeutic swim during the day for adults during a lunch break… we just couldn’t begin right away. Even if we now officially have a love hate with the leaky metal shed/covering thingy, we’re still enjoying every moment. Now that we’ve gotten a lot of the fun out of our system, we know it’s a mad dash to cooler months. And back to school. And all the chaos that those cooler months bring with it. The months where we will actually really use a fun, multi-purpose addition on the back.
I mean, we will definitely use it next year, but this Fall… we’re kinda looking forward to it.
So now that we’re officially ready to get started, and I’ve officially over-explained myself… {because I figured we could all use a rewind/preface} now that we’ve shown you the basics to the outside design, here’s the layout of the inside.
The All Seasons Room – Layout
Right off of our great room, this is what it will contain: Think a-frame with an indoor dining area, along with an additional fireplace, and sitting area.
This was a quick mock-up I’ve had ready for permit purposes, but the final space will be a total of 20 x 26.5 feet. It’s a nice, generous space. And we’re both thrilled and grateful that we get to move forward with it all. {Even if it adds another layer to the craziness around here. ;}}
We’re in the process of thinking through/polishing off all the design details, so I can’t wait to share more with you guys. There will be a few recycled pieces of our own, combined with elements like a built-in banquette for storage, a fireplace with a hidden t.v. – a-la our first mantel – and a hanging bed. {Because I’ve wanted a hanging bed for like, five years now and I can. NOT. wait. Since this space is so perfect.}
So here we are. Ready to begin.
And may the concrete work {phase one} commence. Wish us luck!
Have an inspired day!
